A totally sweet ride through the 1970s on every type of board . . . from flat, smooth decks and open-bearing clay wheels to curved, gripped decks with insane urethane (and other) wheels and sealed bearings! Very comprehensive . . . and as a skater from CA, I enjoyed learning so much about the other developments - especially the Ollie coming from FLA! But workout before lifting this beautiful beast . . . it is a tank. If you want to know more yourself . . . or know a skater (or would be skater historian) . . . give this a look! Highly recommended, but recognize that I am indeed a biased skater - who still longboards for transport!

If you are a skater on the East Coast this is a must. If you have ever had any interest or appreciation for skateboarding this book is a must. 10 stars. This book was a real labor of love, Thank you for creating it.

Man, this is just great......!This is THE Book about 70's skateboarding history, no matter what.I've been skating since 1975 and this book is just amazing about Skateboarding's History.So far I have 'only' read half way though and it's NOT boring at all.Through the decades I have met lots of the Pros featured in the book in person and also ridden for some of the companies featured in the book.....it's just a blast to read, even as a non-native speaker based in Germany.Hats off to Craig & crew for publishing this Skateboard Bible!It was shipped to Germany in 10 days from the US btw.

Craig Snyder's detail and focus on events, however seemingly trivial, bring the story of Skateboarding ( especially Florida) to life. Rich with personal and candid photos the reader gains a great appreciation that this is a work of both love of the sport and studied cultural history.

At the age of 18, I decided that I was gay....being brought up in the Catholic faith, I always 'suspected' that homosexuality was wrong; when I became involved with a woman, I went to a priest for council and he informed me that 'there was no hope for me'.....armed with that statement and convinced that God didn't like people like me, I proceeded to live as a lesbian for the next 22 years....Little did I know that God used those 22 years to bring me back to Him....as Dr Butterfield, I was an activist in the gay lifestyle as well...Like Dr Butterfield, I had a few Christian people sprinkled in my life thoughout those 22 years who became my friends and shared and allowed me into their lives 'with no strings attached'. My journey is similiar to Dr Butterfield's in so many ways and some of the questions she asks in her book could have (and did) come from my lips. I also experienced a train wreck as well,although mine was due to the fact that at the time of my conversion, I was very much still involved with a woman and the gay lifestyle and I left both cold turkey.I read this book in one sitting because I had never come across somone like me who had come out of a lesbian life like I did to claim Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Her story very much interested me in how she coped with the 'break' from her homosexual past. As someone who has 'lived' her story with my journey, it brought back alot of the feelings and issues I dealt with in my own healing and how God's grace and mercy can cover a multitude of sins.Although I got bogged down in her theocracy of the RP church ( I ascribe to the teachings and philosophy of the General Baptist Conference), I found it quite inspiring that she shared how God can truly change someone from the 'inside out'. He did that to me as well and I am not ashamed of my past. God has used my story, and I would have to believe hers as well, as a powerful message to many Christians and non Christians alike that He is a changer of lives and hearts and souls for anyone willing to take that first step of, 'What if'...? Today, I also live with the freedom of who I am in Christ and even though life has its ups and downs, I have truly and fully been cleansed by the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ..Way to go, Dr Butterfield!!!!

What an amazing testimony! Praise the Lord! I give it only three stars for two reasons: 1) I think the chapters on specific denominational preferences such as how we sing songs in church is not really relevant or necessary for this book, and for me, it took away from the way God works originally in all our lives to bring redemption to us. His grace and love is the same for all of us, but it comes to us in many ways. He knows we are all unique, and I thank him for that. We need to show grace to the different ways we worship and experience him in our lives.2) Also, I think the author side stepped from explaining some of the reasons why she may have struggled with same-sex attraction in the first place. She made sure not to talk about relational factors and influences in her life but chose rather to focus mainly on spiritual influences. In my own experience struggling with same sex attraction and finding freedom and new life in Christ, dealing with relationship issues was (and is) so very important and it is spiritual and Biblical. I realize that we don't want to hurt our families and bring up the past to blame, nor do we want to blame our environments without taking responsibility for our own actions. But to ignore family dynamics, abuse, and heart wounds prevents healing and forgiveness and does not fully reveal the loving heart of God.Certain denominations are reluctant to address family dynamics and environmental abuse or injustices for fear that to do so is too psychologically secular and not Biblical enough. They feel we should just stick with the basic Gospel: we are sinners and God saves and redeems us through Jesus death. Don't bring in anything else. But if you have read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, you find that dealing relational wounds, especially in our families and churches, is extremely Biblical. The last words of the OT address it as the reason Jesus came: "to turn the hearts of the children to their parents and the hearts of parents to their children."We can address our sin and our need for Jesus' saving redemption while at the same time understanding the reasons why we sin and how pain, hurt, abuse from outside sources and within ourselves are things we must overcome, too. For me and many others addressing relationships has been critical in understanding and finding healing in our wounded hearts. It also has revealed to me that God is a loving Father who doesn't dismiss our pain and need. He is the ultimate relationship we need and yet in our own desire to be above it all we make him out to be the same. No, he is not above it all - He is in it all and he loves us and sees us and is with us.This relational emphasis is lacking in Rosario's book and greatly needed.

My go-to recipe book. Pretty much everything I've tried has worked out and been absolutely delicious! Most of the ingredients are cheap and easy to acquire, too, and the dishes are easy to make. At least 50% of my dinners now come from this cookbook. Strongly recommended for all vegetarians and vegans (many of the vegetarian recipes can be easily converted to vegan), or anyone looking for some delicious, easy-to-make Middle Eastern and North African recipes. I particularly recommend the Chickpea and Macaroni casserole and the Lentil Soup with Spinach, but pretty much anything you pick will be a winner.

I bought this book based on all the reviews - but in reading the recipes over, I am a little disappointed. I was hoping to have a book with more (to me) new combinations of spices and ingredients. A lot of what I see in here are salt, pepper, and standard ingredients (peppers, onions, tomatoes, zucchini, canned beans). Which, I suppose, would be very helpful for people who are in a part of the country where you can't find things like rosewater or harissa easily.

Finally a vegetarian book of gold! I went to the Middle-East a couple years ago and the food was absolutely delicious, fresh and mostly vegetarian. This book is spot on with the recipes! I have tried a lot of them and all with success. I have so many bookmarks that it will take me a long time to get through all of them, which I plan to. My family and guests love what I am making.

Wonderful cookbook. The author is an ambassador of good food and good will from Canadian and Middle Eastern traditions, not only of great food but the joys and lives of the people in a part of the world that gets a lots of bad press. It is a shining light. And the really terrific dishes are nutritious, affordable, and absolutely delicious.

I'm sure most people reading about "vegetarian middle-eastern" cookbooks are good cooks when they have the time and inclination. But I, for one, have grown bored with my own repertoire. Most cookbooks are more fun to read than to actually cook from. Or they have ingredients that, even living in New York City, seem annoyingly inaccessible.This book has lots of very easy recipes that are healthy vegetarian (hardly any animal fat with the exception of yoghurt in cold dishes). I can imagine actually(!) making just about everything, there's even a section on arab desserts -- the easy kind made of farina. This is probably the best cookbook I've ever bought. I think it's useful whatever your level of cooking expertise, but you need to be a fan of the meditterranean diet. We're talking beans, legumes, olive oil, yoghurt, eggplant, a few other vegetables. Recipe details:-- it's true most are simple, but unless you were raised in a middle-eastern family I don't know how you would've thought of these combinations -- even if you're say very familiar with Greek or Italian food, I think this is pretty new stuff.Some "recipes" include: yoghurt ginger appetizer (includes almonds, onions, ginger, tomato);many types of lentil soups from various middle eastern countries (the egyptian one includes butter and cumin, the one from bahrain adds tomato, vermicelli, and ground coriander);fried pepper salad; orange and olive salad; beet salad; stuffed eggplant; and vegetable casserole.Nothing sounds 'exciting' but it is all very accessible and well seasoned. It's like you could turn to this book and make every meal from it -- that is if you like meditterranean food.

This book includes many recipes for classic Middle Eastern vegetarian dishes, mainly from the Arab world. Everything looks and sounds delicious and authentic. The recipes are clearly written and don't require many exotic ingredients. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm always interested in finding tasty non-meat dishes to vary the daily menu and this cookbook delivers on that! The recipes in this book are ovo-lacto, but many of them can easily be adapted to vegan cooking. I definitely recommend this book! With recipes like these, meat really becomes irrelevant -- these dishes are all intrinsically good themselves!

I bought this book after a trip to Israel and Palestine. The food there was SO GOOD and this book helped me recreate it. Their use of herbs and spices is inspiring. This book will help you make simple,delicious,inexpensive vegetarian food to be enjoyed whether or not you are vegetarian. I liked it so much I have bought at least 6 copies as gifts. The recipe for Red Lentil Soup is fantastic. Everyone loves it and it's so easy to make. It's good with regular lentils too.

This cookbook is well designed and cogently written. The variety of recipes is impressive; many of which you will not see in restaurants in the United States. A couple reviews lamented about the lack of photos, but the instructions are very clear for the recipes I've tried and/or read so photos would do little other than increase the cost of the book. I am especially looking forward to trying a lot of the soups. There are some recipes with egg and dairy so hard-core vegans: caveat emptor.

I enjoyed the book as I can relate growing up in the projects in the south bronx and being a fan of Hip Hop. Additionally and more importantly I went to A&D (art & design) high school back in 1987-1991 and knew P in which we hung out just a few times. We even cut class together with some other friends and went drinking. Some of the things he mentioned in the book about our school is very true. Especially jumping out the window from cafeteria just to cut class. We lost touch after he left school so I recently picked up his book to read how his life played out after leaving school. Always been a fan of his Muzik until this day. I recommend the book to anyone who is a fan of Mobb Deep.

I am a huge fan of autobiographies, and an even bigger fan of Hip-Hop and Prodigy/Mobb Deep. This book was so well-written, I wish he was still around to write many more. Reading this autobiography, is like reading or watching a prequel to your favorite movie. It gives you such a deeper understanding of his music/lyrics, and also the man that he was. When you listen to Mobb or Prodigy songs, you truly see that he lived what he spoke. As if I could not have been a bigger fan...this book made me appreciate his music 1,000 times more. One of the best and most enjoyable autobiographies I have ever read - even if I wasn't a fan of his music. Everything about it is just excellent! A must-have book! Losing P was a tremendous loss to Hip-Hop, his community, and myself personally. Rest in Power, P!!!!

Book is amazing but better audibly. The way its written has too much street slang to really appreciate this intelligent brother. I highly recommend the audio book because Prodigy's narrating skills are amazing. Not only was he a dope mc but his narration skills excellent. A movie needs to be made on this. Rip p.

My Infamous Life written by Prodigy, is insightful and real. Prodigy takes you into his world and you feel as if you are going down memory lane right with him. The book has Many Many Lows, however as Prodigy explained he was child for 16-17 years and he has now seen the negative impacts of his decisions as a grown man. I hope that this book gets into the hands to many young people who have chosen a wayward life as he explains that his decisions did not lead him in the place he deserved. This book is coming from a person whose life was destined to be great, had opportunites not afforded to many. Yet and still got into the rap game and still chose the wrong paths. This from a person who could've had the world at its feet, still ended up doing foolish things. If you have a child who has chosen the wrong paths in life, this is a book for them. However, this book is real grimey, very street, and hood. Prodigy is the REAL DEAL in regards to the streets. The way he describes things will insight a child who is eager to do the wrong things or want to make a name for him/herself. Prodigy does not hold back on the details of the dirt, hurt, harm, and danger he caused. So please be mindful of the contents if sharing this book with a young impressionable person. In regards to his place in hip hop, there is no doubt that he could've been up there with NAS, Jay-Z, Tupac, or Biggie. He brings us a close insight of his aspect of the media made war of the east coast vs west coast drama that had taken the lives of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. If you want to know from his aspect of the rap game and business, this is a book to pick up and read. I hope that this book touches others but that Prodighy continues to live a life of peace and proseperity and gets back to rhyming just to show these newbies in the game what a real MC with real life situations is all about. Defintely this is a must read!

This book tells the story of Prodigy's upbringing and rise to stardom. One half of the rap duo Mobb Deep hailing from Queensbridge, NYC. Prodigy tells a tale of music, criminal activities, profiling police, health, family life, the music biz, and so much more in My Infamous Life. Well written, informative, and highly entertaining if you are a fan of Hip-Hop, or Hood/Gangster movies. Somebody should make a movie of Prodigy's life. RIP

First of all, I am only halfway through this book. It is an honest account of Prodigy's life from the beginning all the way through his fame after the infamous album hit. You see that Prodigy was raised in many ways priveledged, but also got caught up in the wrong crowd and robbed and beat up harmless people. At one point he describes at around 13 years old, he beat up an innocent kid after school, and broke his hand after hitting him. He even includes a pic of himself in a cast with Havoc laughing about it. His comrade, Killah Black, at one point kills someone for no other reason than taking their headphones.Although i am a huge fan of Mobb Deep's music, Prodigy in many ways brags about his thug behavior to the point that is is almost disturbing. Yes, he shows some remorse, but he also finds humor in shootouts and stabbings where none should exist. i would have prefered that Prodigy simply state the facts of what he went through in his brutal upbringing and life rather than brag and laugh about the violence that he inflicted and was witness too.I do, however, think that the book is well-written and very honest, you learn about the story behind many of the tracks in his albums and all his wild antics. Despite some criticisms I do recommend this book, I just hope it does not steer some people in the wrong direction.

When I saw that Prodigy had written an autobiography, I was skeptical at first about its contents. But after deciding to buy it for the kindle and give it a go, I have to say, it turned out to be a really good read. I knew going into this one that there'd be stories about tragedy, success, love and happiness. I can honestly say, I found all of those and much more in the book. It may not be for everyone, but if you're a fan of hip-hop and grew up in the same parts as he did, this book will hit close to home. It truly was, his infamous life.

Prodigy was an inspiration to me his words very powerful and uplifting and letting us know he is human just like us he has u drawn into his life story I could feel his pain and struggle and found out details the media never showed us and he will be truly missed... Rest In Paradise #Goodread

In 1998, after a visit to Charleville, Rimbaud's birthplace in northeastern France, I went to Bemerton, near Salisbury in England, where George Herbert lived and preached the last three years of his life. Rimbaud hated Charleville and was repelled by its Sunday-dinner respectability; he wanted only to escape it, and the day I spent there, wandering alone, left me troubled and saddened. In contrast entirely, the modest church of Saint Andrew's in Lower Bemerton seemed a perfect and moving mirror of Herbert's work and character; seeing the altar beneath which Herbert is buried, I was moved to tears of gratitude. Christianity permeated the great English poetry of the seventeenth century and no one succeeded above Herbert in letting it be the whole and everyday life of his work. From Donne he inherited the intellectually and syntactically knotted style that Johnson mockingly dubbed "Metaphysical," and Donne is perhaps a poet of greater moments, of greater range and intensity. But Herbert goes with us on our way: his poems are more trimmed and homely than Donne's, Traherne's, or the Catholic Crashaw's, more vividly ordinary than Vaughan's. With the pastorate at Bemerton, Herbert abandoned connection and courtly ambition; the choice delivered him, and shaped and reflected his best gifts. He can be startlingly modern in diction, as when he calls prayer "Church bells beyond the stars heard, the soul's blood, / The land of spices; something understood." But the informing modesty, the love and gratitude over elemental things, can seem both special to his time and a rarity in any day. One of the best entries in the recently resuscitated Everyman's Library from Knopf is Anne Pasternak Slater's edition of THE COMPLETE ENGLISH WORKS of Herbert: it includes the verse, prose works, letters, an entertaining collection of "Outlandish Proverbs," and Walton's biography; the introduction is good and the notes are excellent and helpful. For a lovely and keenly-felt appreciation, read "George Herbert and the River Valley Route," the sixth chapter of Ronald Blythe's DIVINE LANDSCAPES (Harcourt Brace, 1986). Still the best anthology of the Metaphysicals is the one edited and introduced by Helen Gardner, THE METAPHYSICAL POETS (Oxford, second edition 1967).Glenn Shea, from Glenn's Book Notes at www.bookbarnniantic.com

To keep this brief and to the point, I had long believed that the poem "Easter" was actually two separate poems due to the divisions in Vaughn-Williams "Five Mystical Songs". I had caught a comment about it in an article and realized I needed a better edition of Herbert's Works than I had. The Everyman's Library has never let me down and certainly has come through once again with a beautifully put together edition. "Wings" was printed the way it was intended to be seen. Herbert's Christian mysticism is incredibly strong and the poems are absolutely beautiful. "The Call" can still be found in at least the English and Episcopal Hymnals even to this day and its message is very powerful in its simplicity and grace.

This is such a beautiful edition of a beautiful poet. The layout and typeface are exemplary, and the Introduction and Notes (particularly the Notes) are simply terrific. Everyman and Slater are to be congratulated. This is now my "walking around" Herbert, replacing Patrides (which is still worthy if you can find it). (This edition does not have the early versions -- usually referred to as MS Jones B62 -- which is not all that important, except there are one or two lines that one will miss (e.g. Church Porch 367-8 draft: "Leave not thine own deere country cleanliness/ffor this ffrench sluttery")). (Ah, college days.....).

Beautiful book with an understated book jacket that seems perfectly suited to the intelligent, elegant, devotional poetry of George Herbert. No question about it, Herbert was a poet to be reckoned with. His verse is extremely stylized and contains complex structures and brilliant rhyming and meter. Nevertheless, they are all about his faith and about the church. Not being much into traditional religious faith, I find his poems, though indisputably brilliant, unsatisfying in that, unlike Donne's, they're all about the same thing--his undying devotion to his God. Nothing wrong with that; it's just that it gets to be like readng the same poem over and over. The same could be said, I suppose, about poems about romantic love. There are other things to think and write about besides love and religion. Nevertheless, he was a master poet and anyone who writes verse could learn a great deal from Herbert. It's a beautiful edition with a great lay-out, helpful introduction, and a slender little gold ribbon for holding one's place.

I'm no great student of English Literature, but as a country church pastor, I love Herbert's poetry and his commitment to talking about his faith and his faith struggles through poetry and prose. He exposes some of the inner life of pastors within his poetry and his other writings in this collection and what it shows me is how little things have actually changed. We may live in a far more secular world than he lived in, but giving room for the time and place it was written, many of his wonderful verses continue to have power and insight. I purchased this book because it was inexpensive and contained the complete breadth of Herbert's work. The font is very readable and each work is spaced nicely on the pages. Buy it and enjoy some Herbert!
