The principle that God will not trust me with more unless I am faithful to manage well that which He has given me, finally dropped into my spirit. I was also encouraged to identify many good practices I already employ in my finances, but the principle of storehouses is what I was missing. I thank God for leading me to this book at this time in my life, and thank the authors for their obedience to put in practice what God has taught them, and to share their experience.

I found the book extremely helpful because it so extremely practical. It is for EVERYBODY - there is nothing in it that excludes anybody. It is simple - but it does mean taking simple steps of faith. It is not hard to start putting something aside. If God's Word doesn't help us get out of financial difficulty into financial blessing, it means that the world has more to offer than God. Either we live by faith in every aspect of life, or we become faith schizophrenics - trusting God to get into heaven, but trusting the world and its ways to provide finances. I know a lot of Christians struggle with the thought of financial prosperity, but we are foolish not to believe that God wants us to financially prosper. It begins with Jem McClary sending his son, Jeremey, off to San Francisco by train to bring back a couple of prize bulls for the ranch. Everything goes smoothly until a terrible accident derails the train and most of the passenger cars, except for Jeremy’s car, which is teetering on the brink of a cliff. He has time to rescue the passengers before the car goes over the edge. The next thing he knows, he is bound on a ship. He has been shanghaied.Sophia Annikova has dreams that are more like visions. In these, the Lord seems to be calling her to do things. Living in St. Petersburg, Russia at this time is very dangerous. Her father is trying to get his daughter away to America before the worst happens. Sophia feels she has to follow the messages she sees in her dreams and her actions cause her father and her to leave St. Petersburg as soon as possible. They end up on a small island off the coast of California. Sophia’s father is certain that the Russian secret police will eventually find and kill them.The story of how this all meshes together is very unique. Ms. Carly has a great imagination. I had a question in the back of my mind while reading this book - the title truly did not seem to match the narrative. We start out in Colorado, then to Russia, then to California and all this seems to make sense. One of my concerns with the novel is that the ending comes suddenly and surprisingly. The characters all ending up at the same place at the same time had to be divine intervention or a quick ending to the story.

I really like this book It was fantastic and all the characters were awesome. The storyline had you clinging to every word to the end.. The faith that Jeremy and his whole family had including how his dad struggled with his faith and how God helped him see that God was working out what was best for all. Sophia had a very strong faith also. I just love a fantastic love story with an unbelievable end to all the people in the story. A job well done Chloe Carley. I am looking forward to reading your next book to see what comes next.

I am a little confused how the title fits, but the story is great. I like how the author brings in a father and daughter escaped from Russia with a price on their heads, a train wreck, and the reality of being shanghaied in the early days of California.Join Jeremy and Sophia as they navigate the dangers before them.There was a very different angle in this storyline as Sophie is a modern day prophet. Something unusual that makes you pause and think.I received an ARC and all my opinions are my own.

His Mysterious Silent Bride by Chloe Carley is two separate adventures: one of a young man in a train wreck who is then shanghaied and the other of a young woman running from the Russian secret police. There are all sorts of subplots and turns in the road for each of them. We have met Jeremiah McClary in previous books but here, in order to take his mind off Daisy Whitlock, his uncle Nate is sending him, by train, to San Francisco to accept delivery of two new bulls and return all three of them by train to the ranch in Colorado. All is going well until, while crossing the longest, narrowest bridge Jeremy has ever seen, the locomotive and three front cars are plunged into the ravine with Jeremy's car hanging, turned sideways. He does his best to help as many people out as he can and then jumps, just as the car is falling to join the others. It is awhile until Jeremy is able to return to his home, with lots of twists and turns along the way. Sophia is a young woman, who with her father has fled the Czar of Russia. Her father had planned such a move but her behavior in the public square moved his plans forward. Her father is paranoid and is certain the secret police will hunt them to the isolated island off the coast of California where they have sought refuge, but Sophia had a vision from God, telling her they would be safe. Her faith is absolute and so she spends her days drawing and dancing on the beach.His Mysterious Silent Bride is an intriguing story, although pretty unrealistic. Jeremy is a sensible young rancher from Colorado and Sophia is a prayerful, carefree girl from Russia. Their stories meet in a most interesting way. The plot is wonderful and faith filled. Both are well-written, rounded characters, but the best character is Mrs. Hendricks, their landlady on the island who is full of personality and spit and vinegar. She is a romantic, but yet totally down to earth and practical. This is a feel-good romance. If the reader is feeling low yet in need of adventure, this is the book. It has (mostly) a happy ending and (totally) hope for the future. I recommend it highly.I received a free ARC of His Mysterious Silent Bride in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Chloe Carley is a gifted author who clearly puts a lot of thought into what she writes...and this book is no exception. It is action packed, filled with rioting emotions and ultimately sweet. Jeremy manages to outwit death on numerous occasions and return home with wife in tow. I can see how this book could be controversial, as it has a character who receives visions and verbal messages from God. As these are integral to the story, I took it in stride and appreciated this variation on foreshadowing. Beware, once you start reading this story, the family will starve, the dishes and laundry will pile up and you will not rest until it is done.....so carve out some time and enjoy.

The journey these characters take are filled with so many surprises twists and turns. Never a dull moment! My heart wasSo touched by the deep love and relationship between the wonderful characters. The epilogue that continued to let the reader look into their lives was a total joy. God is always faithful, that message rang throughout the pages. This book was a joy to read and a true blessing.

I run a WW2 library page on Instagram and received an advanced copy of Spearhead in exchange for an honest review. The acclaimed author has done it again. Finding a fantastic set of characters from both the American and German side, following their fight until their stories entwine on the battlefield. The book follows the stories of tank gunners Clarence and Gustav through the European theater until their wars collide in Cologne as the Allies break into Germany. Adam Makos’ brilliant and descriptive storytelling paints a clear picture of the men and the battles. You can visualize these men and their crews inside the tanks, facing the perils of armored warfare. Adam Makos and his team spent a great deal of time researching the battlefields, on the ground with the veterans and this is evident in the amazing level of detail he has put to paper. As well as the two gunners we meet other characters from infantry and armored units as they fight together through some of the wars epic battles including the Ruhr Pocket where 325,000 German troops were captured. The reader is taken inside the tanks, through the trenches, streets and fields with these men who are swept up in the tragedy of war. A fantastic book that reads beautifully, anyone can enjoy this from WW2 enthusiasts to people who are new to the genre. I loved it and I’m sure you will too.

This book arrived earlier today and I began leafing through it to see if I liked it or not. Turns out I did so I sat down and read it from cover to cover.Wasn't sure if an accurate story of the soldiers from Company E, 32d Armored Regiment, 3d Armored Division, along with their supporting foot troops of the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, who fought in the Battle of Cologne would be accurately told by someone who relied on interviews rather than wartime documents. But a quick look at the endnotes shows Makos did rely on wartime documents. In fact, he did an excellent job in terms of getting it right, with only one minor gaffe in the entire book (mistakenly identified the German Seventh Army as the Seventeenth Army)Adam Markos has done an absolutely magnificent job capturing those events and taking the story further by examining the postwar experiences of the panzer crewmembers and US tankers during a dramatic afternoon captured by a Signal Corps motion picture photographer and witnessed by Stars and Stripes correspondent Andy Rooney.For those interested in more than Cologne, the author begins the tale by recounting events at the Mons Pocket in September 1944 before taking the narrative through the capture of Cologne and beyond.I am gauging this book's worth from the perspective of a professional historian who previously served in the US Army as a tanker in a number of different units between 1979 and 2006. Reading about Clarence Smoyer and Gustav Schaefer meeting after the war in the same square where they both fired upon a fleeing civilian car with tragic results almost brought tears to my eyes. It was very touching to see how wartime foes could become close comrades decades later. SPOILER ALERT - Herr Schaefer was not in the Panther whose destruction was captured on film. He was in one of the other two panzers in Cologne city center that day.Highly recommended especially for those who aren't deeply interested in World War 2 or armored warfare. This will prove to be an enjoyable and interesting read for those folks.A number of photos are included, some are recognizable stock pictures that have appeared in other books but some were donated by veterans for the book. Some maps are included, but they give a "soda straw" rather than a wider view of specific events.

I am a student of history, and keenly appreciate reading about WW II, especially American actions in France and Germany. My dear Uncle was a surviving combat medic under General Devers and later with General Anthony McCauliffe going into Germany. ... years ..later he reconciled with our German cousins . For me much of this is very personal in a familial sense. Author, Adam Makos is a gifted writer with much more to offer in the future. I must read his other works. The type set makes this edition easy to read. The colorized photo on the cover brings the past to life.The photos, maps and illustrations are very worthy additions to the narrative. The notes, index, sources, etc. are complete.Well done Random House, and a special thanks to Adam Makoas.!! WELL DONE!!

Wow! This is the best book I have read since Adam Makos' A Higher Call. It is an intense and emotional journey through the end of WWII. I knew the boys in the Allied armored divisions had a rough job, but this really puts their fight into a new personal light.I remember watching the film on the duel with the Panther as a kid and always wanting to know more, now you can. This book will leave you saying wow and probably rubbing your eyes a bit at the end.I was sitting on the edge of my office chair on numerous occasions glued to the pages reading as fast I could to see what would happen next. I can't believe the things these boys went through to defeat the Third Reich. I love WWII history and I now have a much stronger appreciation of our WWII tanker veterans like Clarence Smoyer and his armored infantry comrades. All I can say is Clarence's story should be a movie! Do your self a favor and read this book!

I had the opportunity to hear this story sitting with Clarence Smoyer back in 2003 at a 3rd Armored Division Reunion. As the President of the 32nd Cavalry & Armor Association this story is part of our history as a Combat Cavalry and Armor Regiment. Adam Makos has written a great book of the story of "Spearhead" the Story of Cpl. Clarence Smoyer (Eagle 7). Clarence served in Easy Company 2nd Battalion 32nd Armor Regiment as a gunner on a Pershing Tank. His story tells of the Battle of Cologne and the tank battle that took place in front of the Kölner Dom, officially Hohe Domkirche Sankt Petrus, English: Cathedral Church of Saint Peter. This battle was a turning point of the First Army/ 3rd Armored Division invasion into Germany. I recommend this book to be part of your reading. VICTORY OR DEATH!!!
