Ayn Rand's Romantic Manifesto is a tour de force that explains clearly and convincingly the nature of art, its purpose, and why Romanticism is the highest, most noble form of art. "Art is a selective re-creation of reality based on the artist's metaphysical value judgments" says Miss Rand, and then proceeds to prove it.

I checked this book out from the library and it was my first in Ayn Rand's non-fiction writing.I finished it with the intense craving to learn more and thus read all of Ayn Rand's books that explained her philosophy; of course I even finished reading about the objectivist epistemology( theory of concept formation).This is the book that gave me the fire to seek and find that kind of truth that every artist knows is out there, objectively speaking.

I had always wondered why struggling through 'great' literature was so painful - dating all the way back to college days. The 'Great Books' and 'Classics' left me cold and I even bought college level courses taught by 'The best university professors in the country' (according to the promoters) to try to understand why I was so often left feeling like a sucker after enduring one of those.Ms Rand posits that conventional literature is absent the Romantic Hero, and that clearly explains to me why the usual literature is so dreadful. The guy who takes risks for a reward, who plans his work and works his plan is the hallmark of Romantic literature's hero. This book presents Ayn Rand's theory on why art exists and what helps it to perform this function.My only complaint would be her remarks on music; I didn't appreciate a point where she suggested that the minor key was less harmonious than the major key, and must sound dark and ominous. The minor key can create harmonious and even optimistic sounds, and her remark was over-speculation.In total though, the book provides an excellent foundation for any study of particular forms of art, by bringing it back to man's method of thought.

As Nature is the main source of macrocyclic drugs, it is appropriate that Chapter 1 of the book provides an overview of different classes of macrocyclic natural products. This ranges from sources of isolation and bio- synthesis, via synthetic approaches, to pharmacological activities and clinical applications. Chapter 1, as all chapters in the book, is rich in information and therefore not bedside reading unless you are an expert in the field. In general, Chapters 2 7 review and discuss how macrocycles have been dis- covered and developed to modulate different targets of interest for the treatment of disease. Each chapter starts with an introduction to the field to whet the appetite of the reader, followed by a systematic overview of data and insights gathered, such as for different classes of macrocycles. These chapters also provide important lessons from historical macro- cycle drug discovery. Thus, macrocycles that target heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), epothilones as stabilizers of microtubules, inhibitors of zinc-dependent histone deacetylases (HDACs) and macrocyclic kinase inhibitors, which are all used in oncology, are reviewed in Chapters 2 5. Chapters 6 and 7 discuss the use of anti-inflammatory macrolides to manage chronic neutrophilic inflammation and the recent discoveries of hepatitis C virus protease inhibitors. Chapter 8 provides an impressive overview of how cyclic mimetics of protein epitopes have been developed to target G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), integrins and protein protein interactions (PPIs). In line with this theme, Chapter 9 is focused on macrocyclic a-helical peptides, in particular stapled peptides and their use to inhibit PPIs. Last but not least, Chapters 10 and 11 provide general and extensive overviews of properties that influence cell permeability and oral bioavailability of macrocycles, as well as methods for their synthesis, respectively. Chapter 10 has a particularly interesting introductory section on modelling of permeability and absorption. This is followed by a brief overview of oral bioavailability of macrocycles, which can be supplemented from citations throughout the book, particularly those in the introduction of Chapter 1. All books will have some drawbacks and omissions; a few minor ones have been alluded to above in the overview of the different chapters. Additional topics that readers should be aware of include cyclosporine A for which substantial studies have been undertaken to explain how it crosses cell membranes. These studies form a historical basis for which current research aimed at identifying strategies for design of cell-permeable cyclic peptides are based. Chapter 9 on stapled peptides is written with a very optimistic viewpoint that differs somewhat from current discussions in the primary literature, as well as the more stringent tone of the other chapters. It would have benefitted from a more extensive discussion of cell penetration of macrocyclic a-helical peptides. As written, the reader is left with the understanding that stapled peptides rely on active transport processes to enter cells, where they then elicit their pharmacological effect. However, a discussion of the current research on whether these transport processes allow general and re- producible drug delivery to a diverse population of patients is lacking. Another lingering question is whether or not there are limitations to whether stapled peptides reach their destinations inside the cell after active uptake. In spite of the minor concerns indicated above, I absolutely recommend "Macrocycles in Drug Discovery" to those that are active in the field, both in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. The different chapters provide stimulating reading for experts in macrocycles as well as for organic chemists and medicinal chemists in general. This is my first Leesa Bow read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Charming the Outback has vivid descriptions of Broken Hill and the Aussie Outback, which I enjoyed. I haven’t been that far west, but this country girl could relate to a lot of the settings, having spent a lot of time on properties and in country towns myself.I really liked Maddy. Luke annoyed the crap out of me. It was a nice conclusion, though I thought Maddy had better chemistry with someone else in the story. You’ll have to read it to find out what I mean. Well executed 5 Stars.

Charming The Outback is a beautiful story filled with love, angst and determination. I loved watching Maddy and Luke grow both individually and together. Their story felt genuine and real.

This was just what I needed. Charming The Outback is a well rounded and robust romance with great characters and a love story that may be low on angst, but is high on gaining reader attention and providing enjoyment.This is the first book I have read by Leesa Bow, and even being a stand-a-lone, it features characters from another book, so if I’d read Winning The Player first, I would’ve enjoyed catching up with Aubree and Hunter again. I haven’t but I didn’t feel I was missing out on anything. This time we have Maddie who is Aubree’s best friend and Hunter’s cousin. She’s a total city girl from Adelaide, and owns her signature look of beautiful clothes and Jimmy Choos.Luke’s family heritage is a sheep station in the outback. It’s a long way from anywhere, hot, dusty and full of flies. It not a field of Geology which is what he really wants to do, but when family places a demand on him, it’s the family station life first and foremost with no time for shopping and high city living. He doesn’t believe Maddie would cope, and doesn’t want to force that life on her so he dumps her without a word and moves home.Things is, Maddie loves Luke, and wants to see if the Aussie Outback is something she can adapt to, so she takes a teaching contract in his small town to test the waters. But, the Luke she finds back in his home town isn’t the Luke she’d spent 10 months getting to know and love. He’s angry and doesn’t want a bar of her, trouble is, it seems the locals are quite taken with the new primary school teacher, and he doesn’t want anyone else near her either!Luckily for our couple, they’re supported by a great group of secondary characters especially as Maddie is out to prove to Luke that she isn’t the high maintenance city miss that he believes her to be, and that she’s more than capable to learn, change, and most of all, compromise. On his part, Luke has to realise his mistake in breaking things off in the way that he did, and make an attempt to fix things. I have to say I loved this book and if you are the type of reader who loves a good solid small town romance, then this is definitely for you. 4 Stars

After reading and loving Winning The Player last night, I needed more by Leesa Bow and couldn't wait to pick up Charming The Outback. I've spent the afternoon unable to put down this addictive 5 star read and have just finished it. The story of Maddy and Luke was emotional and the author writes in such a way that you're there with the characters every step of the way. I liked that Charming The Outback followed on from Winning The Player and we get to catch up with some of the characters, but this book can still be read separately and enjoyed just as much. However, I recommend that you read Winning The Player if you haven't already because you get to see how Maddy and Luke first met. Plus you'll learn more about Aubree and Hunter who are another couple you'll love just as much.Charming The Outback gives the reader a chance to learn more about the Australian outback so many of us have seen on the TV or in films. You'll see how tough life can be, but how everyone comes together and gets the job done. It was so warming to see how welcoming the locals were to Maddy, and the author gives us some lovely characters who become like friends to us just as much as they do to Maddy. Again, Leesa Bow weaves fact and fiction together so beautifully, and you can tell that she has first hand experience of being in Broken Hill. If I ever made it to Australia, I'd definitely want to visit Broken Hill and see the gorgeous sights that this very talented author allows us to visualise with her clever descriptions.As with Leesa Bow’s other books, this book is well worth the 5 stars I've awarded it. This author is one who I'd happily one click without even reading the blurb because I know I'm guaranteed a fantastic read!

This really is an interesting and very, very helpful first book on what a child with a microscope can find in a jar of pond water. Alvin and Virginia Silverstein keep the text informative and simple and don't oversimplify or make it dull. There's a brief description of Leeuwenhoek's discovery of microscopic life, a chapter titled "Let's Go Hunting" to get the interest flowing and then sections on the common things found in a jar of pond water: amoeba, paramecium, algae, euglena, rotifers, hydra, and flatworms.This book is about collecting and looking at specimens - it is not meant to be an instructional book on the mechanics of a microscope.Throughout the book, there's a good quantity of black-and-white photos of each of these microscopic animals and they were obviously taken with a professional high-powered microscope - so the kids who use this book might be a little disappointed that they can't see these animals with such magnification or clarity - but I suspect that most kids will be perfectly fine with this.I think this book would be a good buy for a child from about 7 to 11 years old. It should really whet their appetites for using that microscope!

An excellent book to get my kids started on exploring the tiny world - and the perfect excuse for us to start using the used microscope I picked up last weekend!We've seen tardigrades, nematodes, spirogyra and water fleas so far! Many more to come as we get through this book and build our water-world id chops.

This was a very informative book. I bought it on the recommendation of another Amazon review when I bought a microscope for my elementary-aged daughter, and I am glad I did. It gives a lot of context to what she is looking at and things she can look for. The only improvement I would wish for is color pictures of the slide samples. The pictures are all black and white. The photographs, however, are off good quality and really sparked the interest of my seven year old

I take full responsibility because I did not pay attention to the product information when ordering. 1969 was the year this book was copyrighted and the contents testify to this. I bought this for my 8 year old grand-daughter to use with a microscope I purchased for her for Christmas. I will buy her a more updated book.

I found this title on a list of "living books" and ordered it. I am so glad that I did. I have a five year old boy who is totally fascinated by it! He immediately asked if he could have paper to draw the amoebas and could tell me everything about them days later ... they really are fascinating. My eight year old daughter is equally as excited. We have collected our pond samples and will soon search for our own tiny creatures. I am so happy to have found a book, without a super hero in it, that has sparked such interest for him.

Perfect addition to my grandchildren's science activities.

Great gift to go along with a microscope for our little scientist! He really got into it and it was full of great information. Pictures were also done well.

The quality of the book is great! But for the content, if you are a beginner for statistics topics, this is the book for you, since there are few mathematical formulas and there are a lot of vivid examples and pictures, which will make you interested in statistics. However, if you want to get deeper insight into statistics, this book is too easy. Recommend "Introduction to Mathematical Statistics" by Hogg. That book is a excellent book to those who want to do something about machine learning, data science.

This is a good introductory text on Statistics to teach anyone the subject from the very ground up. I rented this as a study tool to assist me in my occupation as a data analyst in the finance industry. Reading two chapters a week, I was able to get through the entire text during the "semester" period that Amazon rents it. After only a few chapters I found myself using the concepts in my work building models to analyze operations data. That being said, the book covers the basics of statistical thought beginning with box models and normal distributions, standard deviation and error. Most importantly as a introductory stats text, it is very readable with great examples and practice questions throughout. It may feel a little dated at points, but this won't hinder your learning at all.

This is a very good introductory statistics book. The way the authors present the material in a clear, concise, and sometimes even fun (there are some jokes in the book) is refreshing. They also try to explain the concepts to foster understanding instead of just presenting equations and formulas, which is a definite plus. This book is a classic and a great way to start learning about statistics.

My stats professor was horrible and basically taught nothing so this textbook was a lifesaver! It explains tough concepts clearly and has lots of great examples and practice problems. I got an A- in the class solely because of this book

I'm not a "math person," and was compelled to take an Introductory Statistics course as the final math class toward my BA. I approached the course with preconceptions after hearing horror stories from other humanities folks about failure, shipwreck, plagues of locusts, and thoughts of suicide.This is one of the top half-dozen texts of my entire college career.Not only do the authors make statistics accessible and even fun, they do so in a consistently smart style that simultaneously simplifies statistical concepts while not pandering in the quality of language overall, or occasions for clever asides. While many professors will end up using modern calculators for the problems, the text bases its lessons on the use of tables (normal, t, and chi-square). It's difficult to write a glowing review for a statistics textbook. Even if it's an excellent book, deserving of five stars, it's treating a subject the study of which, for most people, ranks right up there between watching paint dry and getting warts removed.I've used several statistics textbooks in teaching, tutoring and studying stats. Some of them had great illustrations, and some had a cool CD in the back. Most had instructions for using a TI calc, Excel or Minitab to solve problems. Some tried to push a sociopolitical agenda through careful selection of examples and problems. But until this book, none of them did a decent job of explaining, in plain language, what all the "things" in statistics really meant.Finally we have a textbook that explains to the student studying statistics for the first time, what the "standard deviation of the mean" (to choose a random example) really means, and why he/she should care. Other books may try, but their language is still up there in Math Land. This book gets it right.This book also has the great illustrations, the cool CD in back, the TI/Excel/Minitab instructions. It also has the sociopolitical agenda, as evidenced in the authors' choices for examples and problems. I have never written a review for a novel, before. However, I feel a duty to explain why I believe this is one of the best books written this year.Nico Walker has accomplished something truly special with his debut novel. The book reads like a casual reflection on a turbulent, haunting past. Nico's protagonist is pragmatic and honest, both about his place in the world and his own shortcomings. As the author admits, the likable side of the main character was injected via edits - Nico does not see himself as a hero in this story.Overall, this book may be the first great classic of the opioid epidemic. Although some compare this to Hemingway, and other war focused stories, the comparison falls short. While Hemingway forced grandiose spectacle into his books, Nico takes a more micro-focused approach. He talks about the daily grind, the suffering, the things that soldiers do to make up for the traumas they experience on the ground. These inclinations transfer into private life, where the main character is incapable of integrating into society, but knows that the high is divine.The negative reviews seem to focus on the book's approach to describing soldiers. Some reek of jealousy that a soldier would "sell out" his compatriots in such a revealing way. In the book, the soldiers seem incredibly human, being put into extraordinary situations and responding in whatever way they can. However, they also commit atrocities and terrible things. From every single account I've heard from my veteran friends that have spent time in Iraq, this is accurate. There are none of the typical Hero's Quest characters in this story; every single person that is mentioned is deeply flawed. This is the magic of the story. Throughout all of the debased actions that the characters pursue, there is a strain of humanity running through it all. You FEEL the struggles of the addicts in the stories, and you can understand the choices being made as requisite at the time.Instead of simply seeing these veterans and citizens as dope fiends, you can feel the struggle of their existence through their hopes, dreams and attempts to be functioning members of society. As in life, most of these efforts prove fruitless and the cycle of addiction takes firm hold. This has been the most revealing look into a part of society that I have no experience with that I have ever come into contact with. The book is highly recommended.

The story was so tragic and yet eye opening. If you’ve never known or been involved with addicts you cannot truly understand the lifestyle and the struggle. This book is a peak into the underworld of war and drug addiction. I would recommend this book to anyone who is curious about these topics and anyone with a strong stomach as some of the situations are quite graphic.

Full disclosure: I know the author and am not a literary critic. I'll therefore refrain from garland tossing or designating its genius. I will call it an accomplishment that deserves much of the praise and attention being heaped on it.The story told is a distant reality to certain segments of the American population, and uncomfortably close to the skin of others. Depending on your personality and affiliations you will find an accurate reflection of life, or a fascinating, voyeuristic escape into the world of the desperate. Personally, at times, it was both for me.It's a poetic and vulgar book and that is the point. Fans of Bukowsi, Burroughs (see: Roy from Junky), D. Johnson, H.S. Thompson and Palahniuk will lap this up and impatiently wait on seconds. Interested to see what comes next from Walker.

What a scumbag. But, a bright, sensitive, trapped scumbag. That’s a characterization of the main character. It’s an auspicious first book. Would be very interested in what follows. Nevertheless, I think this is one of the best portrayals of Army life in “The Suck” that’s been written. It’s also terribly sad — the wasted lives and the horribleness of war.

I don't write reviews, I don't do dope, and I've never been to war. Nico Walker spit on his finger and created a semi-clean spot on the glass to see into the experience. Both the Army and addiction. You want to keep stopping the narrative and help him. You want to scream at him. You wonder how his parents, and all the bank workers are now. You can't stop reading it all though.

If the cover didn't already sell you the book, maybe I can help.If you like Chuck Palahniuk, Bret Easton Ellis, or other writers that critically analyze society and it's darker side, you'll love Nico Walker. This punchy read tells it like it is, and then some, for the desperate among us. This is not written for the decency society, so if you refer to everybody's favorite word as the "f word," this one might not be for you. But if you expect more out of your books than a light story with a happy ending, buy this book.It's not hard to see why a publishing house as big as Knopf took a chance on Nico Walker; from the first page it's clear this is something new. Something original.

This Bryan Kest routine has a number of advanced elements, cobras and other poses held for 5 breaths or more, a standing pose sequence that is quite intense, a plough pose that would not be recommended for a beginner, etc. Nevertheless, many of the more difficult sequences can be easily modified or skipped over making this an approachable yet challenging practice. Note again that poses are held for reasonable amounts of time, so those of you expecting a fast movement vinyasa flow workout might be disappointed-this one will not cause you to break a sweat- still, there is generally ample opportunity to "sink" into the poses should that be your preference. Note that this is primarily a core routine with a couple of sequences of push-ups thrown in- no lunges, warriors or triangles.Kest's focus here is on the breath- maintaining an even, deep breathing flow through the nose and by deep he doesn't mean hyperventilation (good advice as I found myself huffing and puffing on a few of the more challenging poses). Other reviewers found his voice and comments distracting at best and often irritating. Tastes vary of course, but I found his comments encouraging and his instructions to the point and helpful. The spiral bound booklet is of good quality and useful but I imagine most people will be able to dispense with it after some experience with the routine. The audio is spread over 2 CD's and lasts a full 90 minutes. Having a multi disc player or downloading to an iPod would insure continuity.Beginners should consider this product only after becoming familiar with a decent variety of yoga poses (taking several classes would prove useful) and with a good understanding of their (the practitioners') limitations (I should know I'm a beginner). However, approached with this knowledge and a healthy dose of patience, this could prove a rewarding program.

People either love Bryan Kest of they detest him - I happen to love him. He does talk a good bit but he does not ramble here like I have heard him do on other recordings. The talking is actually helpful instead of distracting when you are listening on your ipod and his voice is your only cue. As some reviewers have pointed out this is not really a beginners set but I am not really sure a beginner should be learning yoga from an audio cd anyway. This set is for advanced beginners to intermediate practitioners. There are no pretzel positions but there are lots and lots of sun salutations and little rest of your wrists if you are not used to holding your body up for over an hour. Over all a really good routine that I turn to time and time again. Note: for people who do not like their yoga to "new agey" Kest is a good fit since although he does see yoga as a spiritual as well as physical practice his accent is little too New Yorker to be considered fluffy and he does not use flowery phrases like Yee and some others. If you like the P90X yoga and are looking for a new routine then he is probably your go to guy.

I can't begin to say enough good things about this workout. I am an aficianada of Bryan Kest's original Power Yoga series from 1995. I also enjoy his new videos (especially Intensive Sculpting) from 2002. But...I just love this CD. It is the best workout that I have done in a long time - maybe ever. I thought initially that it might be weird working out without the visual imagery of video, but it is actually better. Bryan's voice is extra soothing, and his direction easily guides you from pose to pose without needing to look at the included book, (assuming that you know a few basic poses, such as cobra and down dog - the others he aptly describes.) I found myself more able to concentrate on the yoga, without distraction. The basic workout begins a bit more relaxed than his Power Yoga series, taking a bit more time to stretch, as opposed to getting your muscles "hot" right away. But before long, you find that your heart rate is getting up there and your muscles are working and that you are doing some invigorating but really challenging balances. This is spinal strenghening at its best, relaxation at its deepest. Bryan Kest's emphasis is, as always, on knowing your body and its limitations and first and foremost, feeling the breath. Another nice thing about this workout is that although it is divided between two CD's, the second CD is basically the last stretches and relaxation, so if you have a single CD player machine, you are not changing the discs in the middle of an intense pose. Also, you might like to do the relaxation CD by itself sometime, just to unwind. A bonus is the book, which has all of the poses and could be taken on a vacation even when you don't want to take the CD. This CD is great - and a day after doing this workout, all of my muscles feel like they got their fair workout. Six stars. Check it out.

There are 2 CDs in the package, and I've done just the first CD which encompasses a little over 1 hour. It's quintessential Bryan. The poses are quite similar to those found in Intensive Body Sculpting, like the pretty challenging "half-moon pose" (which I haven't yet managed to perfect, but I'm working on it) but you also get a lot of boat poses for your core/abs (boat pose is when sitting, you raise your legs up straight until you form a "V" shape and you hold your legs for about five breaths, with your arms parallel to the ground) and a bunch of spinal stretches.Overall, I thought the CD was good. It's part strengthening/part stretching, and complements Bryan's other practices. I don't know if there are other yogis who do poses like Bryan does his. I've tried Shiva Rea's Yoga Shakti (which I didn't like) and some Baron Baptiste (which I didn't think was as challenging as Bryan Kest). So it's safe to say I'm a Bryan-Kestophile. His stuff really gets me going.Very strongly recommended.

I bought this book a couple of years ago, and thought the exercises looked too easy to start with, so put it away. I mean, how hard is a body weight bridge? A year later I completed the Lift Like a Goddess programme and looked for something new. I dragged out this book and decided to give level 1 a go. Yes, the amount of exercises were shorter than I was used to, and I didn't come home from the gym feeling smashed. I left each time feeling I could give more.However, don't be fooled by the shorter workouts! I found I could not do more than 6 bodyweight bridges without getting a cramp. To attempt even 1 holding a weight on my stomach was sheer impossibility. So I gladly stayed at level 1 and worked through it consistently. The day after each workout, was I ever sore.Within 3 weeks I found myself getting stronger. Then, so surprisingly, I managed a proper squat. I have severe scoliosis and a damaged Achilles' tendon due to surgery on my leg for the scoliosis and I have never been able to squat without falling over. Lunging - fine. Squatting, No. However, building the glutes muscles meant I was now stable enough to squat. And my knees no longer caved in. Now I can squat with a 35 kg barbell no problem at all. Next, I found that after 2 years of attempting chin ups, I finally managed one and now can do 12, with a brief break between every 2 or 3. I think the back strengthening work in this programme finally made it all come together for me, even though arm work is not big. The programme I was on was arm heavy (as most programmes are) but, as Brett has realised, most girls struggle with their butts, and arms will naturally improve as you use those bigger muscles more. It makes sense, but I was a bit worried stopping all that arm work. Until I finally managed chin ups which are out of reach of most girls, even those doing arm work daily.I have now done 3 of the programmes in this book, and in a few weeks, will finally begin the advanced programme. It said not to try it till you could glute lift about 60 kg. That's a joke, I thought at the time as I couldn't glute lift my own bodyweight more than 6 times. Well, I've passed the 60 kg goal weeks ago and now glute lift 75 kg. My jeans are smaller, my butt is no longer saggy, I have abundant energy, I spend less than 2 hrs in the gym a week, my legs are tight all over, I've changed shape all over and, wait for it - I'm 49 years old!!!Thanks Brett for the best programme out there!

Honestly, I would recommend going directly to the workouts at the end of the book; unless rage makes you lift heavier, you should skip most of the proceeding text. While the author is very knowledgeable about women's butts, he doesn't seem to have a very high opinion of women as a whole, and his tone often comes off as sexist or condescending. The workouts at the end are phenomenal, but I can only give it two stars because of the sexism and poor editting.

You can find the workout online for free, but I read somewhere online that the book makes it MUCH easier to do the workout, and I completely agree now that I own the book. I had originally printed off the PDF pages to the workout plans, but as each move is pretty specific and unique (I didn't originally know what the difference was between a glute bridge and a hip thrust), my first few workouts with just those PDF printouts was slow and awkward as I looked up each move. It can be done - Bret Contreras has lots of helpful, short youtube videos on performing exercises - but it is cumbersome and I would only recommend it if you're REALLY on a tight budget.This book is more than just the workout. The first 1/3 of the book breaks down different aspects of general health and exercise - the value of this exercise plan, what it does for women, how to set up a productive diet, how to treat your body, etc. This was really positive, realistic information that I think can benefit any and every woman, whether or not they do this workout.There are 4 different 12-week workout plans detailed in the book - beginner, advanced, bodyweight (at-home), and lower-body-only. The middle section of the book lays out each program, which is compromised of 3 workouts (A, B, C), and broken up into 3 segments (weeks 1-4, weeks 5-8, weeks 9-12). The suggestion is that you would do 4 workouts a week - Day 1-A, Day 2-B, Day 3-active rest day, Day 4-A, Day 5-C, Day 6-active rest day, Day 7-full rest day. The moves in this section give you a picture of each move, and each 4-week portion advances to a more challenging version of each exercise if you are able to make the change.The back 1/3 of the book gives a MUCH more detailed explanation on each and every move, like an index referenced from the middle section of the book. It walks you through each move, with multiple pictures to show the motions. It tells you which muscles to focus on as you move, which is SUPER important, because you may otherwise go through the motion but be using different muscles to compensate, and thus not be getting the full benefit and strength.I carried this book with me throughout my workout for the first week, and then had it down on my own (using my phone to track the order of the moves and the weights I use) after that.I think that this program, and book, has so much value. It can be used and adapted for any fitness level, whether you are a beginner or a gym regular. For the previous year, I had been following the Strong Lifts 5x5 (Ice Cream Fitness) program, and had been doing relatively heavy weights. However, I suffered from continual lower back pain, especially after doing heavy squats, and I couldn't take it any more. Shifting to the beginner level of Strong Curves felt like a step or two backwards, but it has incredibly been helping me to build up strength in my lower back and lower body, particularly my glutes, which I think had not been functioning/firing, and so other muscles had compensated, which left my lower back struggling. I am happy to be doing any necessary body weight exercises just to build up all of my strength in a quality and whole body-focused approach.I highly recommend this program, and the high quality book, to any and every woman.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I am on week 12 of the Bootiful Beginnings, so I feel I am now qualified to write a review. This exercise program was just what I was looking for. It's a full body routine, but there is an option for just lower body as well, if you don't want to build arm or ab muscles at all. I have lost a lot of fat, and built some muscles in my butt and hips that I didn't even know I had! Bret does a good job of introducing diet, balancing your macros, and eases you into a lifting program. I am excited to move on to the advanced program, and am so happy to have found a routine that I've actually stuck with for more than a month. Now that's the sign of a good exercise program.
