I already keep colubrids, but I'm curious about branching out to ball pythons. I purchased this book to get an overview on husbandry for this species. There were lots of good pictures of the various morphs that are available. However, the book seemed to focus on imported BPs. With the number of quality animals being bred in captivity now, it seems silly to devote such a large part of the information to wild caught animals. I feel like a lot of the information I wanted was missing from this book; I only paid shipping and a penny for it, but probably I would have been better off going to one of the many reputable sites online for the information in this book and more. The book itself was used but in excellent condition. I couldn't tell it from a brand new book.

This book is an excellent reference for someone who's getting their first ball python. It has information on selection, feeding, general care and husbandry, troubleshooting, and a lot of information on color morphs and the associated genetics. I enjoyed the book a lot, and learned a few things from it (even though I've been keeping and occasionally breeding snakes since the early '90's). No ball python owner should be without this book.Actually, all the books in this series and by this author are excellent. If you find a book on your animal by Philippe De Vosjoli, you absolutely can't go wrong dropping the coin to get it. Highly recommended.

Good overall - I like the genetics section. It is too much about imported pythons and how to treat pretty serious stuff at home - things that most casual enthusiasts or pet owners would just leave to the vet. I wish it had more about setting up a cage and feeding a healthy snake.

I don’t know why I bought this, maybe because I was excited bout my new pet on its way to his new home...YouTube was my new education on this particular specie...lol but I did read it and found a lot I didn’t know about these reptiles

I was told this book was written by the experts and had everything in it you need to know about Ball Pythons. I was shocked to find that there is zero information about shedding, what the different shed phases look like, what to expect and what problems to look for! There is some good information on care.

I love this little book. It has a whole chart section on diseases and tells you the symptoms and how to treat it. VERY heplful.

This came promptly and was very informative and helpful.

Seems to be a good basics book for general care information. Nothing however, that I haven't already read elsewhere online. I thought that for the price it would be a longer and more in depth read.

Just received this big book. Upon quick review, it appears it will be great for young and older children alike. Each sermon/lesson has an additional section to be included when dealing with the older ones. The author has prepared each lesson in an almost outline format: (1) teacher materials (2) prepare the object talk (3) introduce the object talk (4) present the object talk (5) conclusion & (6) discussion questions -guiding everyone (even the most novice teacher or substitute) step-by-step to a very informative and memorable lesson. And that's the goal, to teach and have the children remember! The writer uses good, down-to-earth items often found in the home to use as the attention grabber. Packed with 156 kid's sermons - enough for one a week for 3 years! ! ! Looking forward to utilizing this book with great enthusiasm !

I was expecting the ideas to provide a more engaging outcome for the kids. They are very basic object lessons. For me this was a waste of money.

It doesn't have as much in-depth sermons/object lessons as I expected. Still a great book & helps me a lot with ideas.

I've been reading since I was four years old. I was reading chapter books by six or seven and by nine I was nearly at a high school level. I couldn't breathe, I began hyperventilating when it ended, and though I've thrown a book across the room when a character died, I've never lost my breath because one lived. Because I was not disappointed with phenomenal ending. This read gave me something as much as it took from me and left me full of wanting, wanting desperately to write as exquisitely as this.⠀⠀⠀You have addicts, you have love affairs, you have the utter brutality of the rage of unspeakable horrors and the sweltering southern heat... and yet... nothing burned with as intense of a glory as the profile painted of the human condition. Moments most gruesome swelled into scenes of sensuality and intrigue. This is historical fiction that delivers the error of human nature and asks you, "Aren't you capable of this? Don't you recognize this darkness?"⠀⠀⠀This is, friends, my best read of 2017. It is my first five star read on Goodreads.⠀⠀⠀I've been reading since I was four years old and outside of the Bible, friends, I have never read a story that moved my soul such as this.

I hate this book. It is different from anything I have read. It is painful to read it. I tried several times to stop reading it but I had to go back. I would continually have to read sections two and three times. Never has a book grabbed me and shook my mind until I craved the next page and tried to understand exactly what the author was saying. No doubt there is tremendous truth in the story of Lilith. Not a pretty story.....sad, terrifying, and written in ah manner that I feel deep inside. I am not proud of my ignorance. I thought I was educated and well versed on the subject. The author showed me that I had no clue of the real history and concept of slavery. I will read this book again.

On a Jamaican sugar plantation, a slave girl is born--cursed, some would say, since she had bright green eyes, like a cat, and her mother didn't survive the birth. The girl is named Lilith and 'The Book of Night Women' is all about her (de)evolution--and what an evolution it is. (Actually, the overarching story ends up being bigger than the evolution of Lilith, but it wears that as a guise.)First thing that needs disclosure is that this book is a difficult read, syntactically speaking, unless you're accustomed to Jamaican Patois--even if you are, there may still be some stumbling blocks--because the entire book is written in heavy dialect.Second thing that needs disclosure is that this book is explicit in language and brutal in rendering. If you have a weak stomach when it comes to slavery and its ills (i.e. torture, r.a.p.e, lynching, wanton misbehaviour, so forth), you will heave, possibly vomit, and have nightmares. Thing is, while brutal, I have no doubt it was a near accurate rendering of the time period.Without disclosing too much of the story, I'll say Marlon James is a bit of a magician. He was able to immerse me so utterly in the time period and setting that I had to put the book down a few times just to get my bearings and maintain my sanity. He also gave me every reason to despise a particular character (several actually), but made me shed a tear for that character near the end. It left me feeling as though I were the one with Stockholm syndrome. And the ending--it was a nice touch, very poignant, and provided a plausible explanation for some of the story's inconsistencies.The book, however, wasn't without weakness, mainly with some characterizations. The primary characters were well crafted, but some of the secondary characters--specifically, several women in the 'night women' group, blended together. I found myself asking more often that I should, which one was she again? And the story builds slowly--it took several chapters before it took shape. Once that shape emerged, however, the book was difficult to put down.There are no saintly characters--many are difficult to like at all--but they felt real; the prose and some references might be difficult for non-native speakers; and the story builds slowly (you'll need to actively will yourself to stick with it), but the story does turn out to be a compelling one. Overall, I'd selectively recommend this book because it's not for everyone, but it stayed with me for several days after I finished (and will likely stay with me for a lifetime).

The book follows the life of a slave girl named Lilith. Neglected and isolated, Lilith develops a crush on her master and falls in love with another white man as the story progresses. This is not a slave romance story. The book treats this as abnormal. The author carefully paints a complex world where the reader will understand why Lilith falls in love and why there cannot be a true relationship between a slave & master. A slave and master relationship is akin to that of a child with a physically and mentally abusive parent.The story isn't an easy read because the language & the institution of slavery are brutal. Additionally, some readers may have difficulty reading books written in a dialect. Those who can deal with the authentic ugliness of life under slavery will find a beautifully written tale that is spellbinding.Slaves have strengths & courage. Freedom is the goal. Resistance & rebellion are the tools to gain it.For Lilith, both slaves and masters have their own agendas, and both will use her as a tool. But she is resilient. She will grow and learn. Readers will cheer and yell as she does.The plot is tight, tension abounds, I found myself unsure of what I wanted to happen at the end, but able to trust that the author would give me a satisfying one, and he did.

Although I'm an experienced hiker, I usually pick up the latest how-to books in hopes of learning something new. Unfortunately, most are horribly out-of-date or seem like they were written by someone who's never actually done any serious backpacking. Thankfully, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Backpacking and Hiking is not one of those books. Simply put, this author knows his stuff and is obviously an experienced backpacker who practices what he preaches.The author packs a lot of relevant info into the book, covering everything from how to pick the right hiking boot to advanced survival skills and the latest gps navigation gadgets. While many books give a cursory look at hiking clothes (usually incorrectly suggesting cotton shirts, jeans, etc), Stevenson delves into the most up-to-date polyester blends and anti-microbial, anti-smell shirts that make for a much more enjoyable experience. This current, detailed treatment is applied to all beginner hiking subjects, in an easy-to-digest, conversational style that is a joy to read.Most hiking how-to books read like research papers, often filled with extremely basic, oversimplified info that, quite frankly, offends the sensibilities of most seasoned hikers. Perhaps the best thing about this book is that it tells you everything you need to know to begin backpacking and hiking, while providing much more in-depth knowledge in each chapter for those that want to take the hobby further. The advice is solid, current, tried and true, which makes it a great book for both new and veteran hikers.

I bought this for my 19 year old granddaughter. She loves to hike but has never given thought to safety or comfort or what to do if she is lost, etc.She fell off of a 200 foot sandy bluff last June ending with a mild concussion, bruises and scratches. I can't put a bubble around her (darn it) but I can give her information.She dove into this book fast and finished it fast! I can only tell you that if you have a loved one that loves the outdoors, this is an excellent book. It touches on all that encompasses hiking and backpacking. It has also prompted her to read more about the subject. Until I can get that bubble I spoke of....wait...she'll never agree to go in it. :)

I bought this book, along with several others, for a planned hike this summer with friends who have also never taken a long-distance, overnight event. The book answers all the questions a beginner has, along with those I didn't know to ask. It's a fabulous resource for the day hiker as well as the long-distance athlete, with instructions for identifying and selecting a trail, training your body and mind for the task, gear and supplies, conditions and hazards a hiker could/will encounter on the trail and survival skills. Need advice on hiking for infants or the elderly? It's all here. There's even a section on how to hike with your dog!The book is extremely user-friendly and the section on footwear was a gold mine for me. Appendix C has a checklist of gear to shop for, and I'll be taking this guide to the store. Appendix B has a list of books, magazines and websites for still more information, although the book itself is a hiker's bible. Hikers will benefit from Mr. Stevenson's advice regardless of their skill set. Highly recommend!

Let me be clear - I do a lot of hiking and backpacking and would be offended if someone on the trail called me an "idiot." But, maybe I'm more of an idiot, er, novice than I thought, but I haven't been able to put down the book, especially as I'm planning for a week in the Sierra Nevada this summer. Just today I consulted it before heading to REI to replace my favorite hiking boots. Thanks to the book, I've downgraded from heavyduty to midweight boots - much more appropriate for what I do. I've also already learned that I've been putting the heavy items in the wrong part of my pack. The book is full of great text and super- useful pictures and diagrams that help you sort though all the terrific information.Don't get me wrong, the book is great for beginners. The bottom line is that it's very, very thorough and very, very well-organized, so people at any skill level can benefit from reading it. I've read some of the competing beginners guides to backpacking and hiking and they're not nearly as concise and seem to focus just on backpacking. This book covers both hiking and backpacking - so it's a real beginner's guide.I just hope that Stevenson soon writes The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting More Vacation Time. I'd preorder it in a heartbeat.

This book is great especially for a beginner (which is why I bought it). It covers the necessities needed for daytime, overnight or longer hiking trips, what to take along, etiquette on how to behave on the trails and with other hikers and campers you may meet. What kind of snacks and foods to take along, how to check on weather conditions and checking in at the place where you'll be hiking so people know to come hunting for you. Clothing needs, sleeping needs, and everything you need for a safe, fun trip. They offer cautions. Bathroom etiquette while on the trails. A very good guide to help prepare you for what to expect in simple, easy to understand terms. I would recommend this to others. A great guide to being prepared.

I felt the author tried to cover too wide a subject. He should have stuck to just backpacking. The information was good and I'm glad I read it but he sort of strayed into camping and other subjects that I was not interested in. It's a bit more like a text book that you will check certain chapters for certain subjects.

In Adam's travels he encounters a wide vasriety of people,both good and bad.In this case,he gets involved in saving the life of someone no less important than the President,over 20 years after the Civil War,probably President Grover Cleveland,though the actual name is not given. Then there's the title "No Turning Back" which turns up several times throughout the novel.I found 4 occurrences;how many can you find? Quite a bit different from the typical Gunsmith yarns,noneless a great read with lots of suspense,intrigue and fast action.

This book is awesome. It is not for the faint of heart. This is a call to change the way we think about Christianity. It is for any Christian who seriously wants to take a look at his/her life and make the necessary changes to become a serious Christian. It makes perfect sense why we are not walking in the power of Christ who has set us free. We should be having the same experiences as the early Church, we should be healing the sick, casting out demons, and introducing people to the Savior. Funny thing is, you start talking this way and people start getting uncomfortable. I have to start asking myself why? Is it because we don't believe or could it be actually what John reveals in the book. We are set apart and we are not supposed to look like the rest of the world. Our lives should cause others to be drawn to God, to cause them to find out what they are missing and what we have that makes us different than what the world has to offer.

Captivating! Hard To Put Down! Life Transforming! Empowering! Killing Kryptonite is an intriguing new book by the amazing author John Bevere. Just like Superman, we as Christians, and the Church, have our Kryptonite, which destroys and steals our strength, just like Kryptonite makes Superman weaker than a mere human! What is this Kryptonite? John Bevere reveals it in this book! This book is hard to put down. First, I was admittedly intrigued by the title. But after reading through the book, the book does not disappoint! It not only reveals our Kryptonite that weakens our Christian walk and destroys and weakens the powerful and amazing and abundant life that Jesus came to give us!John Bevere is an amazing author. I've read many of his works. Some of my favorites are Drawing Near, Driven by Eternity, The Bait of Satan, The Holy Spirit, Fear the Lord, and Extraordinary, the life you're meant to live. Just like his earlier works, John goes deep. And it's apparent that John loves the Lord, and lives life guided in step by the Spirit. He writes in the introduction that he writes all his books with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.This book is just an amazing read! It has many wonderful revelations to us as individual Christians and child of God, and to the Church as a whole! This book has 28 chapters in all and more than 300 pages. Its divided into 4 sections, with 7 chapters in each section. The last section is particularly edifying and profitable at a very practical level. The applications is particularly clear and powerful. The message is full of wisdom and urgency especially for our times. John writes that we may be tempted to head straight to the final section, but he recommends reading through the whole book to get the more impact from the last section! And indeed each section leads to the next section and holds the attention of the reader. It just hard to put down! I highly recommend this book ! Its one of the best of Johns books! I also recommend other of John Bevere's books as well. They are all very thought provoking, edifying, and encouraging at the same time and allows the readers the opportunity for deep self examination and to deepen our relationship with God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit!

I was seeing this book everywhere on social media and it just kept popping up so I read up on it and it sounded really good. I bought it and it didn't fall short of fantastic. I'm barely like 3 chapters in but it's amazing! If you're not a believer in Christ, God, and the Holy Spirit, I say still get it!!! This can be a life changer for both the believer and unbeliever! This book challenged me to examine myself like nothing else has lately. John has done it again! This book is most definitely a NOW word for the church causing us to confront hidden sin ( and sin we didn’t realize was sin ) but the whole purpose being to renew our intimacy with our creator and open the door to our spiritual gifts and reach out to a lost and dying world.I’ve read nearly every one of John Bevere’s books but this one is the best by far!

Once again, John Bevere has spoken the truth in love. I originally ordered 3 copies because I knew this was going to be a book I need to share. I also bought the Kindle Version for sharing thoughts on social media and so that I always have the book with me. Recently, I received the audio version which I am listening to for the second time. No regrets other than not having this book available when I was younger. I look forward to sharing this study with my men's group if we ever get through studying Driven By Eternity. John, thank you for obeying God and being faithful to His Word and leading.

I was honestly wary of reading this book, worrying if it would ever into legalistic territory but the author handles his subject with an authority, passionate and logic that made this easy to digest whilst providing much food for thought. If you are wondering why there is a gap between the Christian experience today and what has been the manifest mirac!es of the Bible, this book explains it well.

It is a good book. It helps you to examine yourself and see if there is any strongholds in your life keeping you from possessing the blessingsand promises of God... and be all He desires you to be. I haven't finished the book yet so I can not give a complete review, but so far the bookgives you a better understanding about sin, a covenant relationship. I think It helps you go on your own personal journey and find your place in God's plan for your life.
