In spite of having no education in bookkeeping, I was chosen to be the treasurer for our start-up company. I studied some bookkeeping books and when I started with QuickBooks I realized that there was virtually no relationship between manual bookkeeping and QuickBooks. I didn’t know where to begin.Since “QuickBooks Practice Set” was the last book I had on hand I picked it up. When I first opened this book I was intimidated.I am used to computer how-to books that lead me, step by step, through every process. This book doesn’t do that. Since I didn’t know the first thing about how to do anything in QuickBooks I immediately thought I was in trouble. As it turns out, I wasn’t in as much trouble as I thought.While I also occasionally referred to “QuickBooks 2013 - The Missing Manual” (here: ) I plugged away with this practice set. I think I had to start over with a new company about three or four times. That was easier than trying to delete the several transactions I had messed up. But I was learning a lot while I worked.This book is set up to have you enter data for three months, beginning with January. After you enter the data for each month the book presents the reports you should be able to generate with the data shown correctly. You can carefully check your work against the “answer reports” and figure out what mistakes you made. (That’s about when I would erase the company and start over.)By the time I got through February I was actually beginning to think I could do this on my own.This books is daunting for someone like me who has no idea where to begin with QuickBooks, but if you persevere you will learn more from doing these practice exercises than you will from a book that leads you step-by-step. You will learn not only the correct way to do what you want, but you will also learn to think for yourself to determine how to do something that isn’t covered in this book.I very much recommend “QuickBooks 2013 - The Missing Manual” as a companion to this book, but by itself “QuickBooks 2013 - The Missing Manual” isn’t as good a learning tool. It’s a reference book.A QuickBooks coach would be a nice help, but If you want to jump into learning QuickBooks, even on your own, this book will really get you going.Highly recommended.– Loren

You have to know the basics, have some knowledge of QuickBooks in order to complete the exercises provided. If you are new to QuickBooks, then this book is not for you! If you are seeking to get expert training with the software, it's capabilities, functions, then this book is also not for you! It is merely for practice with entering in transactions with purchase orders, A/R, A/P, reconciling, etc. The book begins with the assumption that you already know how to navigate through the software. Some bookkeeping and accounting knowledge is also helpful to understand the exercises, as well.Honestly, I do think this book is great for practicing. I'm an accountant, but unemployed that is. I haven't worked for 6 years as I took some time off to be with my children. Not having used QuickBooks for that period of time, I have felt really behind. This book was very useful in getting me back on my feet, and regaining the QB skills I once lost. I would highly recommend this book for those who need to a little more practice with the basics.

This book walks you through setting up a new company, modifying a chart of accounts, setting up items, customers and vendors. After the file is set up you then proceed to enter monthly transactions. The screen shots show you what your file will look like after entering the transactions.You will need a basic understanding of QuickBooks. Watching a webinar or reading a book may give you some knowledge of QuickBooks but the best way to learn it is to use it. And that's what you will do with this Practice Set , you will practice using QuickBooks. And that will increase your confidence whether you are looking for a job or looking for clients.I receive lots of emails asking me how someone can learn QuickBooks. I never write reviews for anything, but I felt compelled to write one this time. I am in the process of setting up my bookkeeping business and getting Quickbooks certified. This practice set was SO HELPFUL in getting the practice I needed to implement things I learned during the ProAdvisor program. In the past, I've worked on really large ERP systems, so this was a great resource for me to get comfortable with Quickbooks.

I was looking for exactly this book! Although the program provides MANY sample companies to work with, nothing until this book was able to take one "through the paces" to see if understanding is there. I especially like the back of the chapters where one can check the work to ensure the accounts were setup correctly. The best simulation of QB bookkeeping that is out there! Nicely done!

Love Love Love the QuickBooks Practice Set!!! It is thorough without being redundant and really helped my understanding of QuickBooks. It is a hands-on workbook that walks you through all the steps of setting up a company from the ground up. It explains how to perform the various transactions that occur in the day to day running of a business and then shows you how to check for errors, reconcile the accounts, & compare the various business reports. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is either just learning the QuickBooks programs or simply needs a refresher course to fill in the gaps.

As of two months ago I had no experience working with QuickBooks so I purchased Intuit's training to get up to speed. After the training I needed something like this to practice what I had learned and it's really made a big difference.

There was something off-putting about the writing style. However, at around 40 pages, I connected with the rhythm of the book and genuinely felt drawn into the story. Demian Vitanza manages to provide perspective without justification—a feat all the more impressive for him having written the book in first person.I strongly recommend this for anyone who has every wondered at the mindset of seemingly ordinary young Muslim men who leave secure nations to join extremist groups in war-torn countries.I received a complimentary copy of this book via a Goodreads giveaway. It took me a few chapters to get into the book. I am still not sure how I feel about the interview format where the interviewers questions are not written.I do think it’s from a viewpoint that is rarely discussed which makes it worth the read. The entire time I kept thinking and hoping he’d make the right decision. He doesn’t seem to, except in the end. But anyone who has been young and full of passion for anything can identify with his feelings. Although, I kept wishing he’d focus his passions on something other than religion. He’s almost there in the end and I finished the book believing he’d eventually make it there.

By 1871, Chicago rested on a foundation of wood: wooden sidewalks extended for miles, connecting to wooden bridges that linked sections of the city; even buildings were made of the same material. All of this, coupled with air spaces under the sidewalks and buildings that provided extra oxygen, created the potential for a conflagration given the right circumstances. The drought of 1871 presented those circumstances. This kind of exhaustive background serves to create an understanding of the contributory issues and demonstrates possible preventive steps. Guiberson's compellingly written exegesis is equally good in the other nine chapters. Well-placed, black-and-white reproductions and photos extend the text. When it arrived, I looked at the first few pages and found the writing excellent for the target age group.The explanations of the origins, build up, contributing factors of each situation as well as the results are through without being overly technical or graphic. The impact of the losses, pain and suffering are clearly understandable.For a generation accustomed to the fast pace of technology overload and the side effect of impersonalization, hopefully, this book could provide a pinhole through desensitization of human suffering and make it real to the reader.The printing/compilation of the book is a problem. From page 119 to 147, the pages are out of order. They are there but you need to flip around to read the complete story

My family got tired of me saying, "did you know..." as I read this book. The author does a great job of dissecting disasters--how and why it happened, what we can learn from it. Kids will love it--it has everything a great non-fiction book shoud--well written, exciting, concise and makes you want more.

I bought the Audible version of this book and settled down to learn a new meditation technique. After all, the Forward written by a doctor said that "She will show you how to do it." But I listened to chapter after chapter and all I got were reasons to meditate, said with different emphasis and slightly different words, but the same message. I didn't buy the book to be told that meditation will reduce my stress, increase my productivity, and even improve my sex life. I expected a chapter or two on the benefits, but not a whole book! Aaaaah, but I was naive. The purpose of the book was to sell me an online course, not to give me the technique I was seeking.So I don't know where all of these highly favorable reviews come from, but I have my suspicions. Buy this book if you want a long sales pitch telling you mostly things you know already, and a few "case studies" of what meditation did for people, but don't expect to learn how to meditate. That will cost you.

Me BEFORE this book:• I liked the IDEA of meditating more than I liked meditating.• Wasn't too sure what people actually meant when they said "meditation" - other than being quiet, eyes closed & taking deep breaths.• Thought 10 minutes of that was an absolute eternity.Me AFTER this book:• I know what meditation is! (A verifiable 4th state of consciousness! -- don't I sound smart?!)• I know the difference between meditation and mindfulness (and why & when to use each).• I understand that the scientific literature has MUCH to say about the benefits of meditation.• I5 minutes, twice a day is a completely do-able practice for me -- especially once I made it a priority to cultivate the habit• I HAVE SEEN THE FRUITS of meditation in my health & well-being. For me, the biggie is: after 14 years with chronic insomnia - I am enjoying better sleep! (No, it didn't evaporate overnight for me. But it's consistently better, and the off-nights are less awful.)Emily Fletcher explains the science, the origins, the myths and the techniques of meditation in a way that I could understand (but without dumbing it down). I appreciated that she wasn't preachy, and that she had answers for all my concerns and objections. Fair warning: If you read this book, you're gonna end up meditating. I admit I may have some bias because I’m one the 15 thousand students of Emily’s meditation training before she authored this book. So I got her expertise and technique delivered differently before I read the book. The book has it all in there though and is going to bring this amazing tool to so many more people and it’s all in this honed in concise package that is super easy to get started right away. I meditate twice a day and my life is so much better and fuller now and that’s the point of meditation. As Emily says in the book “we don’t meditate to get good at meditation, we meditate to get good at life”. And the more people who meditate the better the world around us will get. I can’t wait for my friends and family to read and benefit from her book!
