A very useful book for trans people who wish to work on their voice as part of their gender expression, but who do not have access to speech therapy or other voice coaching, which can be expensive.

Excellent aid to anyone looking to work on their voice. Simple exercises and very logical, easy to follow process.

Very useful in the process of learning to change your voice to match your gender. It's also, in my opinion, very hard to read, and rather rambling. It took almost half the book before any knowledge was imparted, just rambling for pages about why voice is important.

I received this book as a gift from my mother because she knows my frustration that I do not come across as male over the phone. I'm FTM and can only speak from a binary point of view. I haven't read the entire book yet but there are helpful drawings of proper posture and even anatomical diagrams. From what I can tell so far, this book shows great potential for helping all trans* people with passing. Sure, you may pass appearance-wise and socially, but the prosody of our speech could possibly "break our cover" and be devastating to those who live stealth. I'm glad I got this book.

Omg this book is SO freaking adorable. Read it in the library over the summer and had to buy it for our son.The first page goes "If animals kissed like we kiss goodnight, sloth and her cub, in late afternoon's light, would hang from a tree and start kissing...." Other pages: "tiger cub and mama would kiss and then growl... wolf and her cub would kiss and then howl"The story is beautifully rhymed, the illustrations are great, and not too overwhelming or abstract like some baby books, and it has this adorable refrain every few pages of "and sloth and her cub? STILL kissing goodnight!" ahh! just so freaking cute. Probably my favorite baby book I've found this year, and I try to make it more engaging for our son (because it's totally a mommy favorite) by lifting him upside down whenever they do the sloth refrain and giving him kisses, which he finds hilarious.If this was helpful, please vote. The book was scuffed on every corner. When you opened it there was a large gap between the cover and the pages. This was the replacement for the once I received prior with the same issues. This was purchased off of a friends registry and Was to be displayed in the room.

I read other reviews that mentioned this book had arrived torn, damaged, used, or with pages upside-down but thought...hmm, what are the chances of that happening? Well, I guess they're pretty high because I also received a book that is ripped and looks used. It just arrived today. I opened it to read to baby and found the pages ripped with holes. I've attached a pic. It's a very cute book, but I paid for a new undamaged book, and that's what I expect to receive. Calling Amazon today to ask for a replacement. Buyer beware!

The illustrations are beautiful and the colors are very soothing. I would recommend this book to any parent and child. It is so sweet it will leave you both with smiles on your faces after reading. This book gives an optimistic outlook on life from someone who had to overcome some obstacles (his weight etc.). Anderson argues convincingly that "you can achieve anything if you want it badly enough". He intermingles enough humor from his actual experiences in life to keep the serious parts from becoming monotonous.

I lived in a family very similiar to Louie! Listening to his tape enabled me to laugh out loud about my own family circumstances. The tapes help to soothe my soul and bring the truth about alcoholic family life into the open. I would like to buy this in DVD or CD form so I could buy the rest of my siblings this audiobook for Christmas. I am one of nine.

GOODBYE JUMBO ... HELLO CRUEL WORLD, by Louie Anderson.I picked up this book at a thrift store a year or more ago. I read it today as I was in between 'real' books. Turns out Anderson's story of his life-long struggles with his weight, self-esteem, and a dysfunctional family - an alcoholic abusive father, a nurturing but enabling mother, and ten siblings - is pretty damn real itself.It's a slight book as memoirs go, and a quick read; but it does contain some pretty important truths about fat people (Anderson uses the 'f' word freely, so I will too), how they got the way they are and how much they often tend to hate themselves. Anderson is trying to work out his own self-hate and transform it into self-love, all the while still struggling with the recent loss of his mother and unresolved issues with his late father. (I have not read his first book, Dear Dad: Letters from an Adult Child.)Here's a sample of how he tries to explain that 'fat and lazy' don't necessarily go together."So there's the fallacy. Fat people aren't lazy. It takes immense practice and energy to plan our day, to eat without anyone seeing us, to pretend we aren't hungry, to sneak and cheat without being caught. The truth is, it takes a lot of work to get your weight up to three hundred and fifty pounds and then keep it there."So yeah, he's a comedian and he's still joking, but yet he's not. He then says: "It also requires a large threshold for pain."Because while this is a book that appears to be light reading, it's really not. It's a story of a life filled with pain and yearning to be normal, to be loved. By the book's end, Anderson seems to have reached some kind of peace with himself and his family. I wonder if it lasted. The book was published over twenty years ago, but it's still a pretty relevant read, particularly, I suspect for people who, like Louie, are obese and in pain. It seems ironic that so many talented comics and comedians - people like the late Robin Williams - have such a dark, pain-filled interior life. I remember being surprised at how serious Steve Martin's memoir, Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life, turned out to be. Anderson's is too, but it seemed just a bit too pat, or maybe just too short, to pack as strong a punch as it might have. But I'll recommend it. With Louie Anderson's second book, he uses a more autobiographical style of writing in sharing stories about his life. This book is different from his other books as he is telling two stories at the same time, Louie's own story and a story about Jumbo the baby elephant who was snatched from his mother. While it might seem like "light reading" at first, it becomes quickly apparent to the reader that Louie is on a different journey this time. A more personal, introspective journey to tackle his own inner demons and to discover the answers in healing himself. This continues to be my favorite book to date as this style of writing truly demonstrates Louie's talent as a writer/author. By the end of the book, I found myself hopeful for Louie to slay his demons in his search for happiness and love for himself. If you are able to find a copy, I highly recommend reading this book.

Louie Anderson continues to battle the demons of his dysfunctional upbringing in this second of his three books. In his first book, Dear Dad, Louie focused on his abusive father's alcoholism and the impact it has had on the comedian's life and overall psychological well being. In this book, he tries to come to grips with his own obesity and the negative impact it has had on his life. He largely attributes it to his father's alcoholism and the lack of love he received as a child. Anderson's reflections are often laugh out loud funny. Yet, throughout the book, there is an overall sense of pain. As somebody who grew up battling obesity (I eventually lost 150 lbs), I can understand the psychological abuse that fat people receive on a daily basis. They are insulted, ridiculed, and treated like outcasts. This leaves the victim feeling angry, bitter, and very lonely. He or she turns to food to ease the pain, which only makes the problem worse. For anybody who has battled obesity, this book will be very therapeutic. If you've never had a weight problem, this book will no doubt give you more compassion for those who have. The 250 page book is an easy, quick read and is very inspiring.

This was a huge hit and my magical unicorn loved her gift. I would recommend making this a hard cover book because the paper back type is just getting mangled. She's 11. It's going to happen, but this is not a durable item.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! I had high hopes as a new "ham" that this book would help me with my new hobby. From the very first page it is obvious that the writer has no clue as to sentence structure, grammar or punctuation. It is also obvious that the author is writing English that is not his native language. It would have been wonderful if he had used an editor that could have help make the content at least readable.I shared the book with an experienced Extre ham and a relative new Technician. Each of these put the book down after reading a few pages remarking "how can you read this mess" and "it made my head hurt trying to understand". One star is for the great cover.

Could not even complete the introduction. This must have been translated from another language without being proofread. Or it was written by someone who did not have an even basic understanding of the English language. I'm asking for a refund.

The author really needed an editor. I am not sure that English is Mr. Campbell's native language; that would not have been a problem with a proper editor to refine the language. I don't know enough about ham radio to know whether his advice is sound; to some extent the information gets lost in the poor writing.

With a name like Jack Campbell, one might assume the author to be fluent in English. That person would be wrong.Either the author is not familiar with English sentence structure, or he attempted to write the book using a voice recognition software, and never bothered to read or edit the results. Trying to make sense of his fragmented verbiage was too exhausting, and I gave up after deciphering the introduction and half of the first chapter. I'll get my information from another title.EDIT:. As I felt unfair reviewing a book that I'd barely read, I finished the rest of it. Interestingly, the English gets a bit better around chapter 2, though it remains rough throughout the book. In all, I stand by my review. The information in the book is quite basic, and very scattered. Even if the writing was better, the informational content would have netted this book 3 stars.

From beginners starts out ok. Expert needs to be revisited.Basic would be more realistic for the entire selection.Vaguely explaining a subject would be a better description.Dated material from start to finish.

Save your money, and go elsewhere. Publication is laden with misinformation. Obviously written by someone who is fairly new to the field.

The author obviously has the knowledge, but the book is riddled with misspellings, mistakes, and incorrect sentence structure. If you can get past this, it is a quick, informative read, but far from "ultimate."

Not written very well. A little confusing as a read. Not much information , but OK.
