If Shakespeare were to write an information security tragedy, it would not be titled Hamlet, rather Bayuk. The story of Jennifer Bayuk is tragic in that she spent a decade as CISO at Bear, Stearns, building up its security group to be one of the best in the business; only to find it vaporized when the firm collapsed and was acquired by J.P. Morgan Clearing Corp. After all that toil and sweat, Bayuk was out of a job. (Full disclosure: Bayuk and I have given a presentation together in the past, and I did get a copy of this book for free.)While the information security engineering group that was at Bear, Stearns is no more, Bayuk has taken her vast expertise and put it in a great new book: Enterprise Security for the Executive: Setting the Tone from the Top. While many other books equate security with technology, and are written for technologists; Bayuk writes that information security is all about management control. And to the extent which a CxO controls assets, is the extent to which others can't use them in unexpected ways.The book is written to help CxO's and business executives become familiar with information security concepts and techniques to make sure they are able to manage and support the efforts of their security team. This is an issue, as a big problem for the poor state of information security is that CxO's are far too often disconnected from their information security groups. No story is more manifest than that of when Heartland Payment Systems CEO Robert Carr blamed his PCI auditors for his firm's security problems. Carr is a perfect example of the type of person that needs to read this book. As an aside, for an excellent reply to Carr's kvetching, read what Rich Mogull wrote in An Open Letter to Robert Carr, CEO of Heartland Payment Systems.While many CxO's think that security is about firewalls and other cool security products, it is truly a top-down management approach, and not a technology one. The book notes that the only way for information security to succeed in an organization is when management understands what their role is.What is unique about the book is that Bayuk uses what she calls SHS (security horror stories). Rather than typical FUD stories, the horror stories detail systematic security problems and how they could have been obviated. By seeing how these companies have done it wrong, it makes it easier for pragmatic organizations to accomplish effective security by setting a strong tone from the top down.Bayuk details the overall problem in the introduction and notes that many CxO's have wrongly spent significant amounts of money on security to avert security incidents; but have done that without any context of a greater information security methodology. The leads to executives thinking that security as nothing more than one long spending pattern.Chapter 1 - Tone at The Top, notes that tone exists at the top, whether it is set or not. The tone is reflected in how an organization thinks about the things it really cares about. Employees can tell how a CxO cares about security by their level of personal involvement. Not that a CxO needs to be, or should be involved with minutia of firewall configuration or system administration; the key is rather that they are for example, championing the effective and consistent use of firewalls and how systems are securely administered.In chapter 5 - Security through Matrix Management - Bayuk does a good job of detailing the various places that the security group can be placed in an organization. The chapter notes that there are as many ways to organize security as there are organization structures. Bayuk writes for example that if CxO's in a given organization are a tight-knit group, accustomed to close coordination, then it should not matter to which CxO the person managing information security reports to. If that is not the case, there may be multiple security programs that end up far too below the required C-levels that are needed for effective security. The chapter provides a number of different organizational scenarios, with requisite roles and responsibilities.Chapter 5 closes with an important observation that a CxO should task the human resources department to put a line in all performance reviews whereby managers attest (or not) that the person being reviewed follows security policy. A CxO should fire people who willfully avoid compliance with security policy. Whatever tone at the top exists should be employed to make sure that everyone knows that the CxO is serious about the corporate security program. Such a tone clearly demonstrates an organization that is resolute about information security.One thing that Bayuk does very well repeatedly throughout the book is to succinctly identify an issue and its cause. In chapter 6 - Navigating the Regulatory Landscape - she writes that if a CxO does not have management control over an organization, then the organization will fail the audit. It will fail because even if the organization is secure today, there is no assurance that it will be going forward. In addition, control means that the CxO will ensure that the organization is attempting to do the right thing. And in such cases, passing an audit is much easier.Overall, Enterprise Security for the Executive is a fantastic book. It provides a no-nonsense approach to attaining effective information security. I bought this book for my teenage foster daughter who is in love with English class and is preparing to take college-course writing classes in high school. I am so proud of her and for Christmas bought her a variety of eBooks with writing tips and tricks. This one, she has informed me, is fun to read and helpful.The format is simple, easy to navigate, and appropriate for kids over the age of 13. The materials is well organized and easy to use. She actually helps tutor foreign exchange students on the English language and uses this book as a guide for some of her private classes. She thoroughly enjoys how easy it is to use and has recommended it to a few of her friends who are working on their English. One French girl is doing very well with the book and a Chinese boy is also finding it very interesting.It's very basic in the fact that it focuses on frequently used words and phrases. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for for my daughter, but she enjoys it nevertheless. She especially enjoys using it during her English courses with foriegn exchange children. And I think that's basically what it was created for. It'd be a good guide for kids just beginning to learn about idioms. But it's also a good guide for people attempting to learn the English language.Overall for a little more than $2.00 it was a really good buy. Would I buy it again? Perhaps for a foriegn exchange student, but I don't think I'd buy it for a writing-loving person who just wants more guides to proper writing.

The story was great fun and informative. I hate to rate the story lower because my kindle issues but reading the story on kindle was very frustrating. I am on an iPad mini and the text was so small I got a headache from reading it to my son. I was not able to orient the book the tall way to see the pictures and text larger and more clearly. It was stuck in landscape mode. I also couldn't adjust text size. This was not only frustrating and difficult for me but made it less accessible for my visually impaired son. He needs large pictures and text to enjoy a story fully. There should be info or warnings on features of kindle books if the ability of changing orientation and text size isn't standard.

I love this series. This is the second book we have bought for our grandkids so they could see where their Nana and Papa go on trips. We live in Cairo and this book is accurate, cute and the story is engaging.

I hadn't heard of this series. My kids loved this story. Can't wait to see some other ones. Great way to teach kids about different places around the world.

This series is fantastic. I started it for my 4 year old neighbor, some for her birthday, Halloween (Greece because she was a greek goddess), some at Christmas, and then one on Valentine's day. When she opened her present her eyes lit up. Her mom says she loves to learn and go on adventures with Bella & Harry. Will be purchasing the rest of the series for her!

Bought this sweet little book for 3 year old grandaughter who loves to read about the sphinx, pyramids, etc. she wanted a book about Egypt, and loved it.

Giving it 4 stars for the idea and concept. I wish there were more informational.

This was bought for a 9 year old granddaughter for her birthday. She loves the adventures of Bella and Harry. The books are well written and pictures are colors. She even asked for this one because she didn't know anything about Cairo and wanted to learn about it.

My eight-year-old daughter and I have been following the exploits of Chihuahua pup Bella and her younger brother Harry for some time now and this is Book Four in their adventures. This time, the adventurous siblings visit Egypt, together with their human family. The books in the series do a wonderful job of introducing children to the delights of travel, learning about other cultures, and experiencing the wonders of the world at large.In "Let's Visit Cairo!", Bella and Harry begin the Egyptian tour by visiting the Pyramids of Giza which are over 4,500 years old. As they trek through the desert, Harry learns about camels and how they store their fat, which enables them to go for long periods of time without food. They then visit the Great Sphinx and adorable little Harry daydreams about becoming a pharaoh! The illustration depicting Harry in pharaoh garb is really cute and will have children exclaiming out loud. The siblings travel to other places of interest such as The Museum of Antiquities where they learn about mummies and King Tut before they go off to explore the Valley of the Kings located in Luxor, Egypt. Here the siblings learn about the great pharaoh Ramesses II or Ramesses the Great and what hieroglyphics are.The siblings also learn other things about Egyptian culture such as the food and some common phrases in Arabic. The accompanying illustrations provide young readers with a colorful portrait of this exotic land of pharaohs and will inspire young children to learn more about Egypt, its history, and its customs. My daughter and I look forward to reading more about Bella and Harry's global adventures!

This is a set of 3 softcovers in a slipcase. I previously purchased one the books in hardcover and was happy to be able get all three softcovers for just a little more than the price of one hardcover. The softcovers are the same size, same quality paper and printing as the hardcovers, and having them together in a heavy-duty slipcase cinched it for me.These newspaper strips are typical of Silver-Age Batman comics, with the stories and art greatly improving over time. The later strips are actually well done, with striking art and grittier, more complex stories. But what I like most are the introductions (illustrated with photos) in each volume, which chronicle the evolution of the strip, the problems faced by the artists producing daily installments, the effect the campy 1966 Batman TV series had on the strip (and DC comics in general), and what killed the strip in the early 70s (an interesting tale of copyright infringement). Overall this is an informative and entertaining compilation of Silver-Age comics in a bargain set. I think it’s well worth picking up these books at this modest price.

Bought this for my dad for Christmas. He used to have a large comics collection...before his mom threw them all out. He really enjoyed seeing all the Batman newspaper comics that came out when he was a kid. This is a great gift for any Batman lover.

We got this as a gift for my dad and he absolutely loves it. It contains the Sunday morning Batman cartoons that he grew up with. Plus, the price on Amazon is much lower than at book stores.

I enjoyed reading this book, because it helped me get a more nuanced view and understanding of hypnosis. The techniques described in the book were very inspirational and whether one is spiritually inclined or not, there are good lessons to learn about how we can all improve the quality of our lives by making active use of the enormous mental potential that we all possess.

Well written, easy to read and understand. Helpful adjunct to training. Would recommend several books by this author. Very informative and easy to put into practice.

After reading this work I have decided to add hypnosis to my skills as a coach. And seriously considering hypnotherapy as well.Thank you

I understand that it is an author trying to give his mentor/inspiration his fair credit. It is written like a "Dummies" book-using easy language for the layperson. I like the book-it explains the history of hypnosis and why he's telling you about it-which makes the chapter make sense to read. The rest is cool-I feel like I am really getting the same lesson as if I were sitting in a room watching someone do the steps. I guess some ppl are turned off by the mentor tribute, and the way the author explains why some medical professionals want to keep it for themselves. The chiropractic analogy explains it well-and I, for one, am glad I am getting this perspective. I am hoping to one day train in the art and become a master myself!

Learning hypnosis in Chile is not an easy task; you have courses that cover the basics of Hypnosis in a somewhat proper way but they do not cover all the relevant aspects. This book helped me a lot to understand the foundations of the art of hypnosis, and helped me to enhance my performance as Hypnotist.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the basics of hypnosis! The author has a deep respect for his late mentor and you can see this reflected in the quality of the book and in its second volume The Art of Hypnotherapy that covers some more advanced techniques that in my practice have proven very effective!This book is truly a must have for hypnosis students! So read it, study it and learn the basics that will help you to become a great professional!

I think Barbara Sher did a good job trying to help her readers understand this simple truth.

I love this book!!!! I have been trying to decide "what I want to do when I grow up" for 50 years and have had many careers and been somewhat successful in all my lives but never truly satisfied. Like many, I am at an age where I am more determined to make sure my second half of life is lived with more passion than survival. This book is wonderful at making readers take a good look at themselves and using writing exercises to narrow down and create a vision of what truly is a perfect career (and lifestyle) for them. Then it attacks the psychology behind what is hindering them from going for that life. It is written in a way that you feel like you are sitting with the author in a one on one discussion- your own personal life coach- so I am halfway through the book ( because I keep rereading sections- it just is that good!). I strongly suggest that you take time out to follow the exercises to get the most out of this book. If you are ready to make a change in your life, this is a terrific book!!!!

DNF - made it to 31% (end of chapter 9) before throwing in the towel.I don’t know how to review this. I really wanted to like this, the cover art was awesome & lured me in, to even skip it to the top of my TBR list, when I bought this (for free on Amazon). There was potential, but somehow, it was lost. To start, the editing/proof work is horrible, it can ruin even a good story, but in a mediocre story, it just becomes un-readable. Too many pauses spent backtracking to make sense of a sentence, & disrupting the flow. Then the flipping back & forth from past to present every chapter is a huge turn off. That jump to the past in chapter 10 was where I said enough is enough, I’d end up destroying my iPad if I have to do one more jump to the past (even if it does give insight into what happened to bring the story to the point it’s at in the present). There has to be a better way than chapter surfing from past to present. Then there’s Callypso, she’s too stupid to be a a good heroine character. I hated her. The only thing I did like about her, was her using her Siren powers for good instead of evil. Then the “Bargainer”, aka Desmond Flynn. A contradiction in itself wrapped up in an enigma, a fae that does very much remind me of Rhys from “A Court of Mist and Fury”, a little too much for my tastes. Callypso keeps saying he’s a bad guy, does horrible things, well at 31%, I didn’t see it. He seemed like a pretty nice guy with Callypso. I didn’t see anything bad, other than the naughty innuendos he flirted with Callypso & Callypso saying he’s bad. So no, I won’t continue with the series.

4.5 Stars!Be still my heart... this was an incredible read. Thalassa weaves a story of intimacy, vulnerability, betrayal, and forgiveness between two very flawed souls--Callie, a 23 year old siren and Desmond, the King of Night. We see Callie evolve, leveraging a past of abuse and horror to become the woman we meet at age 23. The flashbacks were very well developed, bringing the reader along in an engaging narrative that had me feeling her pain and routing for her happiness..And then there's Desmond...oh my. This stud of a guy is immune to Callie's siren gift and takes charge as Callie's protector after deserting her seven years prior (causing all manner of heartbreak). He's a bad boy, that despite the pain he's caused Callie, is someone she still deeply loves. How many times do we do that to ourselves...but we can't help it. At times Des had me thinking "Shade" in Rosamund Hodge's Cruel Beauty.While this relationship takes center stage, the action moves forward as Des allows Callie to help him solve a mystery, why female fae warriors in the Otherworld (where Des is king) are turning up in comas with live infant children.****SPOILER****My absolute favorite quote: "A fairy doesn't show his wings to his betrothed...A fairy shows them to his soulmate."Oh, be still my heart...I'll definitely be reading the next installment in The Bargainer series.

I liked the concept of the book, but as several other reviewers stated, something wasn't quite there. I don't know if this is because I just finished two very good books back to back that had multiple plot lines that were put together seamlessly that this book seemed to fall flat, or if it was something more innate to this story.Generally speaking, I liked the characters and the world seemed interesting. I like stories with heavy romance, so that was a positive here. But I feel like the 'mystery' plot was not well developed, explored, or fulfilled, and there were no real subplots to pull me in. The mystery seemed like more of an afterthought. Some other areas bothered me, and I'll go into those below.SPOILERSAnother reason I felt it was lacking was that there were a few instances where the main character just seemed dense. For instance, when there are no sufficient subplots that would point in any other direction, it's not a big reveal that this person who has kidnapped and has hundreds of partially paralyzed women in cells is the main bad guy and not just some other random bad person. The main character only figuring this out at a minimum 20 pages (read on Kindle, not actually sure how many pages) after she's been kidnapped brought me so far out of the story that I literally had to stop reading for a few minutes at the ridiculousness of it.Eli pissed me off, part 1. He breaks into her house, doesn't listen to her, endangers her with his werewolf-ness, and then begins an amorous encounter when she clearly tells him to stop and go away. The only way she can get him to stop is by using magic, and then he has the gall to be pissed off about it and put her on a 'most wanted list' for using her power to stop him? This is treated as okay because he is an alpha, and he's defended even after this on several occasions. Yeah, no.Eli pissed me off, part 2. He's only okay with the end of their relationship when he sees Desmond's wings. Seriously, not when the person you're dating tells you it's over? Not when she uses magic to keep away from you? Not when she clearly chooses another person? No, when the other guy shows up and is like, yeah, she's my soulmate.By no means do I think it's wrong to show how certain people are - Eli's behavior is practically normal. But not to acknowledge it and to play off that he's one of the good guys with no repercussions is just irritating. Especially in a book that has so many female victims of sexual violence where it *is* clearly stated that it's a problem.Des calling in one of his debts to stop Callie from drinking. They'd barely mentioned that her drinking was a problem, there were really no lasting results indicating that she was having a problem not drinking alcohol, Desmond introduced her to drinking in the first place, and Desmond drinks in front of her several times after. Overall, it seemed like Callie's alcoholism (if that's what it was) could have been played up more, or should have been set to the side altogether. As is, Desmond just seems like a controlling jerk.Desmond never really seemed like the bad person or the badass he was played up to be. It was all tell and no show. I'm not counting the teacher incident.

As a teen, she called on the Bargainer to help her get out of a very big mess. Lost and alone, she keeps calling on him for company, for companionship, for friendship. As the months go on her wrist is wrapped with more and more beads, showing her debt she owes the Bargainer. Then after one magical night, he's gone. Disappears. She is heartbroken.Seven years later, he is back to collect his debts.This was one of those stories that takes you by surprise. From start to finish, this book held my attention. It was magical. It was highly entertaining. There was just enough action to keep me on the edge of my seat, while there was plenty of romance to hold my interest. I will definitely be looking forward to the next book in this series to see how things work out for Callie and Desmond, aka the Bargainer.

Ditto on the favorable reviews -- this gives a great history of influential artists and themes over the years, from early 1800's up through the 1950's. Focused mainly on American artists and old-school themes, but also includes a little on some of the great Brit, Nordic and Japanese artists as well. Nice balance of historic photos, flash and text, and well organized thematically. Very informative for those looking for a bit of background or researching their next ink.

A good mix of well-known and unknown tattoo artists throughout history. Solid blending of flash and narrative, as well.

This book is awesome...plenty of "olde tyme" tattoo flash for reference. People talk about "old school" all the time and don't really know what they're talking about...this book is entirely compiled of the original old school style flash and not awkward modern reinterpretations of it.The drawings contained in this book were created by self-taught untrained artists who only had a limited range of subject matter to emulate and execute. Many of the drawings may seem a bit rough and primitive but remember the art of tattoo has only recently been adopted by the fine arts community and this book represents the traditional artwork of tattooists in the early part of the twentieth century...in it's completely unadulterated form without the self consciousness of modern art. This book is a must for the serious collector or general enthusiast of classical European/American tattoo traditions.

There is no shortage of tattoo books coming out these days.I liked this one because it dealt with old school flash which is my preference.A lot of interesting information and well illustrated.Quite a bit on George Burchett and his work which I found especially good.

This is a great book. It's that simple. If you're at all interested in classic or vintage tattoos then let this be your first book on the subject, or if you have other tattoo topic books, then you need to add this to that collection.I was interested in a book on old school or vintage tattoos. My main purpose was to learn a little bit more about Sailor Jerry Collins and his influences. I thought maybe there would be some other interesting tidbits of information on the history of what we now consider "vintage tattoos" and maybe some cool pictures - what I got was an amazing surprise.There is so much fantastic and detailed information - none of it boring. The book takes you on an incredible journey through time, style, artists and even equipment.Even if you don't know how to read, the pictures and old flash of these vintage tattoos are worth the price of admission ... ok, the price of the book, but you get the point.Whether you're looking for tattoo ideas, a tattoo history lesson or want to have a unique perspective on vintage tattoos - this is a must add to your bookshelf.
