I have been coloring for almost a year now. I have Multiple Sclerosis and coloring helps me to relax, lifts me up out of times of depression, and helps me to focus on something else outside of myself when I'm in pain. I enjoy a wide variety of coloring books, especially animals and fantasy themed coloring books.This coloring book is very "Zen," as I call them. The artistry is beautiful, very creative, and there is a wide variety of them to color. I expected page after page of mandalas, but I was wrong, and very surprised by how much I liked the artwork in this coloring book. Instead, there are pictures and some quotes used from Hinduism and Buddhism. There is a picture of an elephant that is extremely detailed and someday I am going to color that elephant just for me. I've been working on one of the easier pages in this 45 page coloring book. This book would be perfect for a lazy weekend at home with some hot chocolate. **I received a free copy of this coloring book in exchange for an honest review.**

Well I gave it 5 stars and have copied to paper 18 pages of the book that I will be coloring. I put these in a folder named Nirvana so I can complete them when I wish to. I enjoyed the sample pictures in the beginning of the book, all bright and rich in color, giving ideas on how the designs will look when done. I would not have been so sure of some of the designs without seeing them completed. If ordering the book it is the best to have each design on its own pages as this coloring book has done. I can not give a review of the paper it is printed on as I received a ebook. through my email. The pages I printed out printed out clear and crisp with no faded or blurry lines. I also liked that there were both simple pages and them more detailed designs to do. These pages will be a joy to bring to life with color, thank you for sharing it with me.

This book begins with a sample coloring of each of the 46 pictures included inside. Obviously they are only examples and there are 3 pages of "color bars" at the end of the book to test coloring pallets and mediums. The book includes pictures that are both simple and more intricate. It will likely be most preferred by those that like Buddha, Mendhi, etc. designs. There are blank pages between each coloring page to prevent bleeding. I'm unable to comment on paper quality or if the pages are perforated since I only have a PDF version. I like many of the pics in this book and would be happy to have it in my collection. I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

I became very impressed with this particular coloring book - it starts out by explaining what the beliefs behind Nirvana are and the icons that represent Nirvana which include lotuses, mandalas, Buddha, Shiva, etc. Each one is explained as to their meaning and then later on a pre-colored version is also given to provide guidance or just to inspire your own design ideas. A blank page is provided between pictures to help with bleed thru. I was given this coloring book in exchange for my honest evaluation and I was pleasantly surprised - the quality of the drawings is wonderful, the designs range from quite simplistic to the more intricate but are all quite beautiful. I believe most colorists would find this book a joy to own and color.

There are 45 interesting designs of varying complexity here. The introduction gives some insight into these types of images and also provides coloured versions for your inspiration. There is quite a wide variety; Om symbols, yin yang designs, elephants, lotuses, mandalas, Buddha and various Hindu deities. This is quite a different themed collection from some of the usual adult colouring books with some really beautiful designs. and I have not seen any of these images before. A brand new collection to inspire you to relax, unwind and find nirvana.I was given a free pdf for my review.

These are very different designs that show the cultures of people who believe in Buddhism and Hinduism.A lot of Westerners also believe in meditation for health and well being as well as a lot of the teachingsof the Buddha. I think the designs are very nice and definitely have their place. Some are very intricateand there are some that are simple as well as some that are somewhere in the middle meaning there arediffering levels of skill. We can learn a lot from people who do no harm and try to stay in the moment atall times. I like the designs and think they will be fun to color. They are well drawn and are very peaceful.

I love this coloring book! Not only are the images interesting and beautiful, but it has so many extras! For instance, it gives the meaning and history of the images. Also, the images are shown in color so you can use your imagination or have a color template to go by! There is even a section in the back of the book of "Color Bars" which are blank square areas to test your color combinations and mediums. It is beautiful, fun, educational and provides endless opportunities for creativity! I would definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in coloring!

I like science. I tend to like Science-y books. I am conflicted about this one. There are some very interesting factoids in this book, especially about the universe and the elements. The illustrations are in black and white and rather bland but I got past those easily. What I did not enjoy was the writing style. The authors are attempting to show science in a nerdy comical way but it just fell flat for me. For instance, there is a personality "quiz" which has nothing to do with personality and everything to do with being a page filler that did not contribute anything very scientific and wasn't very funny. Some of the experiments were complicated like buying a super neodymium magnet which can cut you and cause blisters just to be able to see the iron fortification in your food blended unappetizing Lucky Charms.Many times the authors digress from their science-y stuff into tangents that I skipped over like the voices in one of the author's heads. There are times the writing lapses into snarkiness like the sex section. The authors let us know that, yes, "Nerds do IT." And they let the reader know a paragraph later they mean "SEX! SEX! SEEEEEXX!!!" This is a straight quote from the book.This book is not without merit though. As I stated, the elements chapter is truly fascinating and the examples are very well researched and incredibly interesting. The illustrations look like doodles but that did not take away from the truly amazing information. I just wish more of the book had been dedicated to these intriguing everyday science-y things around us instead of some of the experiments that were not that interesting, like making static electricity.

The Element In The Room contains a fair bit of interesting scientific fact, presented in the sort of breezy and self-consciously clever manner that is typical of much of contemporary popular science these days. One gets the impression that the authors are apologizing in advance- yes, it’s science, but we’re not really taking it seriously. And there are no tests. Everyone gets an A!Once you get past the style there’s a fair bit of interesting scientific fact, although the authors sometimes dumb the presentation down so much that you wonder who they thought their audience would be. Consider this summary of entropy:- Energy is only useful when it’s clumped together- When you use that energy to do something useful it spreads out- Once it’s spread out, you can’t use it anymore.That strikes me as insufficient an explanation for elementary school students, and yet this book is aimed at adults. There are also several errors that should have been caught before publication. For instance, most menthol is made from peppermint oil, not turpentine. On page 47 we learn that 15th Century Peruvians freeze dried their crops in the mountains. What they dried was potatoes, to remove the solanine, and they still do it to this day. On page 116 we learn that “while the mercury in thermometers has been replaced with colored alcohol, there’s no alternative for energy saving bulbs” while might have been true a decade ago, but by the time this book was published CFLs were obsolete, replaced by energy saving, lead free LEDs.What really ruins this book for me is the horrible, amateurish, quality of the illustrations, most of which appear to be hand drawn or traced by someone who is not a particularly skilled artist. In many instances the illustrations are so bad that they don’t even convey the point the text is making. On page 75 there’s an illustration of the classic “Shepard’s table” illusion, in which two tables rotated 90 degrees from each other appear to be different sizes, but when measured are shown to be identical. In this instance, however, measurement reveals that the crudely drawn tables are obviously grossly different from one another. In fact, with just one exception, none of the optical illusions in this chapter show the effect described, thanks to the poor reproduction.While I wanted to like this book, it’s sloppy, poorly presented, and amateurishly illustrated. Not recommended.

I took this book to review because Zach Weinersmith recommended it and his book Soonish, is one of my favorite this year. I am a science (and math) geek.This book is a whole bunch of weird/interesting/experimental science tidbits. These tidbits are grouped together by subject. It has a lot of white space and really does not lend itself to reading cover to cover. This is more a book that you read a few sections of when you have a bit of time. Like snacking, rather than eating.Most people who are science geeks will pick up a few new things, I would say about 15% of this book was something I had not previously heard of. Overall the level of writing is pretty straightforward, a reasonably bright junior high student can understand at least 90% of this book. In fact, that might be the sweet spot for this book, smart middle school students who love cool science facts up to high school science students. I would, however, make sure they have supervision if making the fire tornado.Overall a fun light book written at a level that even those with a minor interest in science can comprehend. There are some freaky experiments included, sprinkled among lots of weird and quirky science facts.

Buckley in the treacherous urban battlefield that was Beirut in the 1980's.The subject has been broached in at least one of former (if there is such a thing) CIA operative Robert Baer's excellent books on the subject matter of clandestine warfare, and how I do wish Baer himself and taken up the mantle, because it's a story worth telling. A story of one brave man's abduction and torture by Hezbollah, and of how he was hung out to dry by his own government. Baer, I believe, mentions the lads on the ground knew where their chief was being held, but were stopped by the powers that be from attempting any sort of rescue.The book is not only unreadable because it is heavily redacted, it is also unreadable because of the sycophantic slabbering of the authors, as they drool over fellow CIA stooges David Ignatius and Thomas Friedman. maybe next time they could take a leaf from the excellent book written by Ronen Bergman, Rise and Kill First, a book about past and present covert warfare by the Mossad, and which Bergamn was threatened on several occasions, with his life, from publishing because he'd written it under deep cover, unlike the two previously mentioned stooges who penned this tome.

If you like blanked out or redacted sentences, paragraphs and entire pages then the Kindle edition of this book is for you!

This is a well written book that I really enjoyed. Some of the things that were written about I remember, some I don't. So it was great to have the story written to remind me of the people that have given their life for our country and those who are still working for our country.

Having lived in Beirut in the 70's as a State Department dependent, this book brought back many memories of what was a very beautiful city when we arrived (72) and the beginning of the end when we left (75). The material in the book seemed well researched, but it is interesting if you read wikipedia on both William Buckley and William Higgins, there are some differences between those accounts and this book. Guess that is the nature of Intelligence gathering and analysis, and what to believe. Highly recommend the book.

An amazing backstory. Finally the truth comes out and it is written by a person that is apolitical, his only 'axe to grind' is the terrorists. An exciting presentation of the actual story. I highly recommend his other books.

An accurate and highly engaging book depicting some most unfortunate episodes in our foreign policy. Those who serve our nation are truly unsung heroes who deserve our heartfelt thanks.

We haven't listened to the CD yet. This is my 3 years old new favorite bedtime book. We love the frozen movie! However, this book is just ok, it's long and somewhat boring( how can that be, we love the movie, idk?) it just is. It also really bothers me that when someone is speaking they don't include their name. If we didn't own the movie, this could be very confusing. I always add "said Elsa/Anna/Olaf,etc." but for a parent/child whom has never watched frozen, how would they know who's saying what? It caught me off guard the first read and I've seen the movie 50+ times. For the $4 I paid and the fact my child loves it, it was a great buy. I wouldn't pay more than that though, I'm sure there are far better "Frozen" books out there.

I love these Disney read along stories/CDs but the Frozen one isn't as good as the others we have purchased. The narration is a bit too fast, and the entire story is only 10 minutes long! (The Moana one, by comparison, is 22 min long, over twice as much length). But for under $5 this is a good purchase and is a great addition to our collection for my daughter's quiet times.

My daughter loves these books. This is the second one we have bought. The narration, the little sound clips of the actual movie, and sound effects are very engaging. Every time we get into the car she wants to read her books, which is great for my little 5 year old. The price is wonderful, and I know eventually I will have all of them! I just love these!

Got this to encourage my youngest granddaughter to read and it has done the trick. She loves it and proudly told me she can even read it without the CD now! As a former teacher I find read along systems to be great for children to get a head start on hreading - while some may be using rote memory - they still are learning word forms and will be encouraged when they see they understand those words in other settings! Highly recommend this, The CD recording is done in a very nice voice it is clear and conscise and the enonciation is spot on. Your child will undoubtedly enjoy the story too!

I purchased this book for Christmas for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. This is a great shortened version of the story with the same voices from the movie. We listen to it in the car all the time. It's a great way to get her to visually follow along with the narrated story. Perfect for any car trip, even a short one to the store. I highly recommend this book!

The illustrations are beautiful. However, they left out key parts in the movie from the book, and included insignificant parts. This book goes into too details parts about romantic love, getting married, and betrayal by a man (Hans) - little girls (under 10) don't care to know about those things, and shouldn't be exposed to those topics so early.I know that the movie had those topics, but it didn't seem to dwell on them as much as the book does.

Male narrator! Sooo weird considering that this is a story about a sister-sister bond and all male characters are peripheral. Had to return.

This is a great book and such a great reminder of the movie. We like to use the book both with reading it as well as with the CD. My daughter loves the book, and no sooner do we get to the end she is asking for us to read it again, ahem...queue the CD ;)

These stories are good, and the CDs give great sound effects from the film, but they run so long that the kids get bored of hearing it before the book is finished. They should cut about 5 pages from the length because the age group these books are meant for is very young, and the book is way too long for them.

I have had several skin issues through my lifetime, and am now dealing with aging skin. This author is British, and the few specific products she recommends are not even available in the U. S. I only recognized one product that was mentioned. This was a very short book, containing very little interesting or useful information of any kind. One could derive more knowledge from the average article in any women's magazine. Since I've done quite a bit of personal research on skincare, I can honestly say this book wasn't worth the time of the money. Sorry to be so harsh, but there is a wealth of good books on health and beauty out there. Skip this one!

I recently purchased and read Rachel Knight’s “Evidence Based Anti-Aging Skincare for All Budgets.” I am a woman entering midlife, so it’s a priority to take care of my skin. I found this particular book to be the most useful of those I have seen. The author has great knowledge in the subject matter and shares evidence based science on how to prevent and care for aging skin. She talks about different types of skincare products and their efficacy, as well as procedures such as laser. She discusses natural remedies and nutrition, food, diet, supplements, and hydration. She also touches on hair, teeth, lips, and muscle tone. She presents information on how to avoid the appearance of aging before it starts. And what I found to be the most useful item in this book is the worksheet she provides at the end, where you can keep track of how these skincare routines are working for you. I would recommend this book to friends, as I found it genuine and easy to comprehend, and the author has the proper credentials.

We live in a world full of toxins and I like to take the holistic approach to anything that I can. I use a lot of coconut oil on my face, but honestly when it comes to face-wash and moisturizer, I haven't typically gone the holistic route. But this book really opened my eyes. I also really enjoy that there is a nutrition section, because it is so important to overall health - including skin! This is a great read. Lots of fun tips/advice, but also lots of informative information and facts.

The first thing I did when I finished the book was to google all my products, I had no idea about all the info that we're missing when we bought a skincare products, you can also find some really interesting tips to prevent and control fine lines, and age gracefully. Easy to read with a lot of helpful info.

An incredibly educational and informative read. For anyone looking to read up more on skincare, and more importantly holistic, natural skincare! There are really great recipes on scrubs and moisturizers that anyone could make with a few ingredients (my favorite is the skin brightening lemon and greek yoghurt face mask and scrub!). This book is great for people looking for some help to change up their skincare routine, or for people who just want to learn more about what would work best for their skin! Highly recommend!

This author goes into every tip, trick, and product the cosmetic world sells the public and tells you which ones work and which ones don't, and backs it up with well supported, intelligent information. If you're looking for trustworthy products to buy and practices to follow for anti aging skincare that actually works, Rachel Knight has done the legwork for you. She's got your back! I'll never buy a bogus skin cream again!

Wonderful book! As someone who is obsessed with skincare, I'm always looking for new ideas and products to try. I loved the fact that the author explains the scientific process of testing whether something really works or not—there are so many false claims and magic potions to wade through out there and this book offers a guide to products that really work. I was also pleased to see some suggestions, like drinkable collagen, that I became familiar with while living in Asia but haven't quite caught on here yet.

Excellent book! I have already told several girlfriends about It! Rachel knight describes a holistic approach on how to look younger than our age and who doesn't want to look younger than their actual age ! This book is broken down into sections , which are easy to follow. There is even a great section on nutrition . If you want to learn how to have youthful skin and how to keep it that way, this is the book for you !

As an Oklahoma City school teacher, Luper wrote a play for her pupils, who then toured cross-country with her and witnessed the contrast between the integrated Northern cities they visited and the still segregated Southern cities they performed in, and were subsequently motivated to affect positive change in their communities back home, including sit-ins. Rhuday-Perkovich's decision to include Luper's struggle between wanting to keep her students safe and wanting them to act humanizes this civil rights hero, and makes her choices more relatable and meaningful, as does the author's powerful word choice in describing the abusive drugstore customers not as anonymous bullies, but as spitting mothers and screaming fathers. This reminder that the struggle for equality is just as much mental as physical adds a welcome profundity. Johnson has illustrated the narrative in a tableau style, with a bold yellow- and blue-based color palette. The focal points are the expressive outsized faces of the cast of characters, who are all carefully posed. Unembellished backgrounds in muted tones make these characters (and several "whites only" signs) stand out all the more boldly. Clara Luper was an amazing person--writer, educator, and activist. The story unfolds nicely. You learn in the first few pages how Clara Luper went from a child living in segregated America to a teacher leading sit-ins. Seeing Clara Luper's students eagerly participate, survive bullying, and evolve into resilient human beings that made real change happen was awe inspiring. It gave me goosebumps. I cried.

Gave this to my Mom for Christmas. She was deeply touched. She studied and attended sit-ins under Ms. Luper's direction, as did many of my aunts and uncles.

This is an awesome book about woman and students who integrated restaurants several years before the civil right sit-ins began. Thank you Ms. O. for writing such wonderful children's book!

Great book

Someday is Now is a children’s book about the life of Clara Luper, a young black woman from Oklahoma City who would unwittingly spark a string of lunch counter sit-ins that would help to break up segregation in the South. As a little girl, Clara dreamed of the day when segregation would be no more, when she could fully participate in society the way that white folks could. As an adult, she pursued her education and became a teacher that empowered and encouraged her students to actively, but nonviolently, assert their rights. After a class trip to the desegregated North, her students were further impassioned to take action, and after trying other avenues and failing, opted to sit-in at a lunch counter, ordering and refusing to go outside as was expected. Instead, they sat in the Whites Only section, despite being yelled at, called horrible names, even having food thrown at them. They stayed and studied and returned the next day. And the next. And the next. Until the business owner finally broke down and made all of his locations fully accessible to people of all colors. Clara and her students then moved onto the next business, and the next, for years, making strides towards desegregation one business at a time, and inspiring others to do the same.What a powerful story about the power of nonviolent activism, as well as the power that even the smallest of us have to change the world. This book was actually two separate stories: the Franklin expedition (and various others around the same time) then the story of the 1984 scientific endeavor to investigate the tragedy. The first part is good enough though not particularly well written. The second part of the book went in to far too much detail about the scientific team's efforts. The book could have used a much better editor as it seemed at times it was simply trying its best to get to 250 pages. Ironically, probably the best part of the book is the 10 page epilogue at the very end. It wraps everything up nicely and puts it into context with other exploration disasters (namely De Long) of the time. Why could the other 250 pages not be as clear and succinct?

A classic of Franklinology. If you're interested in the fate of Franklin's men, this is a very readable place to start. The authors performed autopsies on the only three men for which complete skeletons and identities exist, because they died early in the expedition. Their discovery of very high lead levels in the bodies took the investigation in what must have happened to Franklin's men in a then-new direction--lead (probably) in the canned provisions. Not everyone agrees, I understand, but no one can doubt the rigor of their work.

Overall a worthwhile review of the history of 19th Century artic explorations, and the likely fate of the Franklin expedition. My minor gripes concern the 3rd person perspective of one of the authors (Beattie) and the somewhat ostentatious and annoyingly self-congratulatory description of the work by the forensic team. A lot of tangential detail hailing work of specific team members along with some lame attempts at creating drama by including a few situations faced by the modern investigators. A good read but could have been more concise and more scholarly in tone.

I'm a polar exploration junkie, so I've read an ungodly amount of books about Sir John Franklin, James Clark Ross, Charles Francis Hall, and other famous explorers. Somehow, I always come back to this one.Even an interesting event like the Franklin Expedition can fall victim to history writers who make their subject boring. This volume is not like that. It's genuinely entertaining and informative. It packs a lot of facts at you from the beginning to (what is doubtfully) the end, but it doesn't feel like a textbook. I just wish it was longer! Hopefully another volume will be released as developments are made in the case.You were probably introduced to this subject in some way by seeing or hearing about the Beechey Island mummies. But do you know their stories? The archaeological section of this book goes into detail about the three bodies and how analysis of their tissues has helped archaeologists understand what happened to their fellow crewmen.In all, this is one of the few historical nonfiction books I'd recommend even to people who aren't fond of the genre. It can be gruesome, as the subject itself is gruesome, but it's a good read.

I have read many books on polar exploration, & while this may not have had the gripping intensity of those written by early explorers & their incredible fights for survival (which many lost), I still read it in an afternoon, because I didn't want to put it down. I am also intrigued by books on forensic sciences, so those with both interests will find it a real treat. It discusses the various early attempts to find evidence of the Franklin expedition, and nicely segues into the recent (1980s+) finding of the three known graves & the scientific work done on the remains. Beattie treats the frozen men with respect, and the examinations & reinterments are admirable. The writing is quite arresting, especially for a non-fiction book, such as when Battie describes moving one of the bodies; As they carry the body of the first man exhumed, John Torrington, his (Torrington's) head lolls on Beattie's shoulder & the two end up eye-to-eye; the scene is remarkably affecting & eerie for Beattie & for the reader (at least this reader).There are several photographs of the bodies, which may be hard on the excessively squeamish. But they are amazing.I was really curious at seeing Margaret Atwood listed as an author...I haven't read much of hers since "Handmaid's Tale" & she seemed a bizarre inclusion. However, her Prologue & Epilogues really add to the book.At one point, Beattie describes a sample of a Clostridium bacteria sample that was taken from one of the men's intestines; they cultured the bacteria & it lived just fine after being frozen for nearly 150 years. What is really frightening is that it turned out to be antibiotic-resistant...even though it first lived long, long before antibiotics were developed. The theory is that resistance to such a powerful toxin as lead gave the bacteria broad resistance. Terrifying to think that we're not only developing strain after strain of Ab-resistant bacteria from overuse of Antibiotics, but could be creating even more resistant strains than we know from all the toxins we pump into our ecosystems.It is truly fascinating, in a horrible way, to find that most/many of the hideous ailments & some of the bizarre decisions in polar explorations (i.e. Greely's apparently bumbling leadership) turn out to perhaps be a product of a "great new technical advancement;" tinned food with lead solder....lead poisoning. As Atwood mentions in her Epilogue, the book demolishes the romantic assumption that "...great men die only of great causes." For many men who braved insanely difficult conditions to be laid low by canned goods just seems...wrong.

If it wasn't for melatonin, I would have kept reading it until the morning. (I have read a number of books, about the challenges of the Southern Pole) It started with the classic "Endurance". Shackleton's story was amazing to read.Then I watched "The Terror" on AMC, and wanted a more factual account of what happened to Franklin. This book helps answer questions from over 150 years ago! Back to searching for my lost sock.

I watched season 1 of Terror. Afterward, found it's based on true events. Not sure why I never knew this amazing story but now I do. This book is incredible at the history and factual information about the Frankin expedition and others of the time, those who tried to find them, and those who eventually did find them...so may years after they died.
